I'm probably guilty of buying the hype from watching their training camp on P12N the other day but I really did like what I saw. Or maybe I should say it skeered me...

So I was reading the conference pride and pac12>sec threads and they just boggled my mind.

Don't you guys think that if we had a legit playoff most of that goes away? No I'm not going to lay out a detailed thought plan, but just for the hell of it call it an 8 team system. All p5 conference champs go with 3 at large bids, no more than 2 teams from any conference. Thats the gist of my playoff hopes.

I mean in the current system theres no way of getting around the fact that it's better for your team if the conference performs well. It just is. Especially if your team is on top of those well performing teams.

You introduce a legit playoff and most of that vanishes. Who would care about anyone in their conference doing well if the power 5 ALL received an AQ to the playoff by winning their CCG, or however your conference is decided. Get with the program B12.

Thats another thing I find amusing. I read a lot of stuff posted here and several B12 posters act like the way their conference is decided is unique and the best thing since sliced bread. Heres a hint! The pac12 did it for years and were told (shockingly enough by many B12 members) to get a ccg or risk being left out in the decision making processes! :wtf2:

Back to the original point...

It would shift our reasoning, a legit playoff. We'd all be rooting for everyone in our conference to lose other than our own team. Like it should be! Seriously. As a casual Seahawk fan do I give a rats ass how the 49ers do? Hell no.

I think we all have teams we like and hate, but conference homerism is understandable under any system where a persons opinion that happens to have a vote, matters more than what was done on the field.

I'm not a conference honk myself. I will rise to the defense of a pac team and our conference if BS is being put out there against us, but for the most part other than UW the p12 can fuck right the hell off. I'll never root for Oregone and rarely root for wazzou. I do like the Trojans and I like the type of football Stanford and them play. I love it when they demolish HUNH teams.

I'm more of a systems guy. You play hard nosed, smash mouth football, and make D a priority and I'm a fan. regardless of conference. Regardless of anything I'll always root for UW and Nebraska, when they play each other UW of course!

We're moving the right direction with our mini playoff, but theres going to be some pissed off folks. No doubt about that, and rightly so too IMO. As a member of a p5 conference one of us is getting left out no matter how you slice it. Frankly I see TWO conference champs getting left out more often than not, wait for it...

Anyway.. I'm bored and just waiting for the season to start...

GO DAWGS!!!

My Season Picks

OK I'm making my conference champs picks today and my four teams that will make it to the inaugural playoff!

PAC12:

UCLA They have it all. Theres no dynasty in the making especially with USC on the rise, but this is their year and they have the pieces to make it happen. It's still going to be a grind in the pac and I would not be surprised if everyone in contention for the crown finishes with at least 2 losses and we get shutout of the playoff. :L Mora is a great coach, second best in the conference. He's going to get it done. Book'it!

Runner up: Oregone

B1G:
I'm sticking with tOSU. Braxtons gone but at the end of the season buckeyes will be saying who? Losing him didn't crush tOSU's hopes and chances it merely equalized the playing field. I think they still have enough to get it done. Sparty will be tough though. Can't really call Sparty the runner up because they are in the same division, but they are indeed the 2nd best team in the conference and by the slimmest of margins.

Runner Up: Nebraska! Wisky will be on their heels all season though and it will be settled nov. 15.

ACC:
Florida State. Simply the best team in the country in a weak conference. Not their fault. Still the best.

Runner up: VT. Once again the 2nd best team (Clemson) is in the champs division.

B12:
Oklahoma. They have it all, not as much as FSU but somebody stop them! I dare you!

Runner up: Texas. Go Charlie. Shut the mouths of the naysayers.

SEC:

Auburn. They are the real deal. Sorry gumps. Prove me wrong. Please?

Runner Up: Georgia! I've been calling and expecting Georgia to be great for like the past 3 years. This year I feel confident in saying they will be the 2nd best team in the SEC!

Alright now on to the playoff!

1.FSU
2. Auburn
3.Oklahoma
4. UCLA

...and the winner is...

UCLA

Sometimes something shocking has to happen in CFB. So there it is!

Congratulations Bruins!

My 2 big concerns for the playoff is:

Will SOS matter when it comes time for selection. They're claiming SOS will matter now , but not buying it till I see it. It would be criminal for Bama to make the playoff this year with that deliberately designed shitfest schedule of theirs, IF!!!, SOS is one of the primary deciding factors.

If SOS does matter, it's time for everyone in the PAC to stop Fn around with South Dakotas and Webers, and start booking more from confs like MWC and at least the other mid majors.

We should leave no doubt in the committees minds that 2 PAC teams will deserve playoff bids, when we got the W-L and we got the SOS to back it up.

I hear that. It's hard to have faith in any system where peoples opinions are a primary factor.

We've heard SOS matters, we've heard winning your conference matters. Yet Oklahoma State got jobbed. How many people on this committee had a say in that?

I do like this better than what we've had in the BCS era. At least now more of it will be decided on the field.

Time will tell if they are worth a damn. I'll give them one shot at it. :suds:

Regent;
Christ. Enough already.

Can we get back to talking about PAC FB around here instead of pages with circular argument rants about the social nuances of conf fanbases. It's like an episode of Doctor Phil talking college sports fandom.

I know everyone is dealing with the overdose of week 1, but let's get over the hangover and back to what's going on this week with the PAC and let the riffraff "lessor" confs deal with their own shortcomings over on their boards.

Yes seriously. :wtf2:

I'm tired of sifting through debates between non pac members looking for mambas post on the weekly pick'em. Especially since I can't chime in! :pound:

Yeah, the sportsbooks still don't have lines on the teams playing fluff games so his hands are tied.

How...

...can we find out who the officials were in a game? Other than watching it if they announce it at the beginning, I can't find any information who the officials were in a past game. Do you guys know a source for this?

I'm reading mambas thread about our idiot refs and FSUmanager stated this;

The refs for the FSU/OSU game were Pac-12 refs.

...and then went and showed how stupid they were.

But that doesnt make any sense to me. Why the hell would pac refs be involved in a non-conference game outside of bowl season? I cant recall that in any game outside of the bowls that Ive ever watched. Its usually home team has the field visiting team has the replay. So I'm calling BS on this.

But I would really love to be able to source it. Normally FSUmanager is a stand up guy but its easy to pile on in a feeding frenzy...

My reasoning

Arizona @ Texas San Antonio

UTSA is no slouch. However AZ is a legit darkhorse in the p12 south. The best division in cfb today IMO.

Washington State @ Nevada

Leach gets his guys ready for road trips. They are going to light up Nevada. Cover's the spread easily

Colorado @ UMASS

Well. I really wanted to take Colorado here but after their first game, how could I?

Fresno State @ Utah

Utes! Tough at home. Fresno is going to have a bad looking resume after their first two games...

Memphis @ UCLA

UCLA gets right vs Memphis. In a big way. (got to hang onto my playoff winner til theres nothing left to hang on to lol...)

Oregon State @ Hawaii

Mannion should light up the warriors. I dont think they'll stop that beast of a running back very often, but they will win. Look for a lot more pts to be scored here than last weeks UW/Hawaii game.

CS Sacramento @ California

I just can't jump on cal to cover that big of a spread yet. They barely beat portland state last year. If they cover I'll give them a little more respect next week, maybe. CAL wins though.

Eastern WA @ Washington

Big spread. Too big for me to ride. UW wins by 15.

Michigan State @ Oregon

Alright! Now were talking! A game with national title implications this early. How sweet it is. OK so all the talking heads say this is a must win game for the *pac* whatever the hell that means. Its not, its a must win game for Oregone. The pac as a conference could get past this loss and still have contenders for the title, because we as a conference play a tough schedule, at least all of our contenders do. This IS must win football for the B1G. If they lose this game, whether Oregone covers or not, the B1G is out of the discussion in the second week of the season. They just are. People will throw them a courtesy comment once in awhile, but lose this one and they are done as a conference as far as contending for a playoff berth goes.

I think the Zeros win, but they arent going to cover.

Southern Cal @ Stanford

Another one with title implications! Yay p12!!We rock!!! Maybe the talking heads were right and it really is a must win for Oregone. Potentially we could lose two playoff contenders in one week! hmmm oh well screw them they are all on the SECs jock anyway. I think if this game was to be played later in the season, Stanfurd would win. But its this week, and USC is healthy. A healthy USC is a scary thing to contend with...

No one needs to transfer your pick'em as I'm the one that gathers and processes it any way. Yours is fine just being in here.

As for Mamba's line on UW? You probably saw where I said I've have set it around 12.5 myself. Would have had action on both sides of that bet. UW may well win by 25 if everything suddenly clicks, but not sure that's a good bet at this point.

ah cool. Works for me.

The UW game... Hopefully mamba knows a little more than we do! After that week 1 performance though and considering the opposition it just seems way too much.

I see he forgot the ASU game, I'll take ASU to cover.

MAMBA;

Y'all sleeping on Coker's team in San Antonio. 37 hungry seniors. Watched them vs Houston.

Good football team in only it's 4th year of existence.
They are good but...

Even though AZ lost Carey they still return 7 offensive starters including a great set of receivers. Too bad they also lost their qb... That being said Soloman didnt seem to notice last week in his first start. He wrecked UNLV. Most of the AZ O-line returns as well.

AZ blasted them last year, and don't forget Rich Rod is working some mojo of his own, they did beat the ducks too.

These guys are going to score a lot of points this season.

I'll be convinced in your convictions when you take UTSA and UW in the pick'ems this week.

Well he did manage to get at least one person to take UW in the pick'em so far so my thought that no one would take those points didn't prove to be right. Still, you know he's taking the under on that as any sane bettor would.

I understand the reasons why the books didn't want to touch the EWU/Washington game given the factors involved, including the Cyler Miles situation.

That being said, -24.5 seems a bit......

No diss to my Dawgs, but I might be inclined to take EWU given that spread.
