There is still a pretty sizable 'log-jam' at the WR position... Cliff Branch (looking like this is his year though), Henry Ellard (should get in before Holt), Otis Taylor, Sterling Sharpe, Jimmy Smith, Mark Clayton, Andre Rison, Wes Chandler, Gary Clark, Tory Holt, Drew Pearson, Stanley Morgan, etc.

And more recent players like Derrick Mason, Andre Johnson & Steve Smith will come knocking soon as well.

Seems like this WR list has always had a lot more deserving names than most other positions.

I hate to let one player in just because you let another player in... i dont play that game...

so IMO it is irrelevant that Irvin made it to the HOF for the question Does Smith Belong in the HOF...

So, if the question is Does Smith belong into the HOF?? i would say he is definitely on the fence...

But if the question is who was better Smith or Irvin?? That is pretty easily still Irvin... despite their close numbers...

You can’t just go by numbers and I see you left out yards per reception. In comparisons, you can do this will any positions but it doesn’t work like that and to answer your question, no he doesn’t.

2.5 more ypc & 13 more ypg. Smith's prime was a bit more passing friendly too, though the start of his overlapped with the end of Irvin's. Irvin's career was also cut short by injury.. more pro bowls, more all-pros (1). Of their 3 "triplets" I always thought Irvin was the most impressive... oh, and that's a no.

Except that the Broncos were NEVER one of those teams under Shanahan. Don't think Plummer or Griese passed for 4000 yards.

Irvin did play with a HOF QB for most of his career where Smith not so much.

Plus, the fact that he was an undrafted free agent and the odds were very much against him.

Never missed one off-season work out. Not even one rookie mini camp.

He won't get in.

Is it more to do with America's Team thing and Broncos not so much?

I"m trying to figure out how you're gonna work "Belishit" into this thread. I think you might have painted yourself into a corner on this one.

Plummer did, Griese didn’t.

But Griese was one of the most accurate passers in NFL history when he retired. Something like 4th.

The rest of that team is the only reason Aikman is in the HOF. He'd need a ticket to get in if he'd played with any other team.

I wouldn't. But like you, I find megatron's career to be a bit overrated.
The only year he dominated we were absolute trash.

He didn’t win them games, just racked up yards in garbage time. Him being a first ballot guy really rubs me the wrong way.

I know the fans were booing the Fords yesterday when he got his HOF ring, but deserved boos too. Dude is a quitter and never really loved football.

Hey, remember when Belishit sat their best corner in the SB against you guys?

What a genius.
