sheeesh...is this guy gonna need a full time chiropractor.... or start a crash yoga course?
He's too young to be having these issues.....

Steven Matz won't pitch Thursday, either. The rookie left-hander continued to experience soreness on the right side of his back on Wednesday, the day he originally was scheduled to pitch. "He's still saying he's still real stiff," manager Terry Collins said. Collins says he hopes Matz gets in a game this weekend. That could lead to Bartolo Colon being in the NLDS rotation.

* memo to matz......get yourself a different mattress,dude.

Not comforting.

No question the dude is way talented, but he's coming off as kinda soft.

I'd much rather have him available for the post season rather than a practically meaningless game at the end of the year, but the thought of having to scramble after one inning of an LDS game because he's got tightness or spasms?

Maybe he would loosen up more if he actually pitched Thursday.

The weather predicted for philly tomorrow won't be ideal for that....so it's just gonna be in a holding pattern, wait & see, and hope for the best with him....

PHILADELPHIA -- Manager Terry Collins offered a few insights Wednesday that might help offer clarity regarding the New York Mets' Division Series roster.

Collins said that while it might make sense on an American League roster, it will be difficult on a National League roster to carry a player specializing in pinch-running, such as Eric Young Jr.

Collins also began to question the prudence of placing Steven Matz in the Division Series rotation, especially if the southpaw does not pitch this weekend. Matz is dealing with upper-back stiffness on his right side. Collins noted that if Matz is included in the opening-round roster and then is unable to pitch and is replaced, rules stipulate that he would be ineligible for the NLCS as well.

With those insights from Collins in mind, let's now project Bartolo Colon in the NLDS rotation instead of Matz, which opens a bullpen spot for Sean Gilmartin.

Gilmartin makes sense with Colon in the rotation because it gives Collins a multi-inning reliever in case a starter is knocked out early. Jonathon Nieseshould be in the bullpen, but his optimal usage might be, say, the sixth or seventh inning with a few lefty batters due up.

As for the position players, it's unclear if Juan Uribe (chest injury) will be ready. But given how many southpaws the Mets might see in the opening round against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the best bet is Uribe is ready.

So here's the new projection:

Rotation

1. Jacob deGrom

2. Noah Syndergaard

3. Matt Harvey

4. Colon

Bullpen

5. Jeurys Familia

6. Tyler Clippard

7. Addison Reed

8. Niese

9. Hansel Robles

10. Erik Goeddel

11. Gilmartin

Position players

12. Travis d'Arnaud

13. Kevin Plawecki

14. Lucas Duda

15. Daniel Murphy

16. David Wright

17. Wilmer Flores

18. Ruben Tejada

19. Uribe

20. Kelly Johnson

21. Michael Conforto

22. Michael Cuddyer

23. Yoenis Cespedes

24. Curtis Granderson

25. Juan Lagares

Top healthy players left off: Young, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Dilson Herrera,Anthony Recker, Eric Campbell, Logan Verrett, Carlos Torres, Bobby Parnell,Eric O'Flaherty and Dario Alvarez

X-rays on Cespedes are negative...Thank God!!!!

No broken bones...but he has contusion on the ring & middle fingers of his left hand.

He'll definitely miss a few games...but tragedy is averted...hopefully he's back and ready for game 1.

PHILADELPHIA -- (10/1)

FIRST PITCH: The New York Mets are poised to play meaningful games in October for the first time in a long time.

The playoff-bound Mets complete their regular-season road schedule on Thursday with a 12:05 p.m. ET game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The game originally was scheduled for the evening, but Major League Baseball had the teams move the game seven hours earlier to try to complete it before expected rainy weather.

Sean Gilmartin starts for the Mets opposite Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff(2-3, 3.07) at Citizens Bank Park. Steven Matz was scratched because ofcontinued tightness in his upper back. Still, manager Terry Collins said postgame that Matz has been prescribed medication for what was diagnosed as spasms and is improving. Collins added that Matz should be able to pitch this weekend.

Despite a loss Wednesday, the Mets maintained a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for home-field advantage in their Division Series. Four games remain. The Mets have the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the season series.

THURSDAY’S NEWS REPORTS:

  • The Mets lost Wednesday’s game to the Phillies, 7-5, but the Amazin’s dodged a bullet. X-rays of Yoenis Cespedes’ left hand revealed no fracture. Cespedes was hit by a third-inning pitch from Justin De Fratus. Cespedes wasdiagnosed with bruises to his middle and ring fingers and should be back in the lineup this weekend. Wilmer Flores departed the game in the fourth inning with back spasms. The Mets built a 5-0 lead thanks to a three-run homer from Daniel Murphy and two-run homer from Michael Conforto in the first inning. Bobby Parnell ultimately allowed a game-tying two-run single toFreddy Galvis in the sixth. Carlos Torres and Tyler Clippard subsequently each surrendered run-scoring wild pitches. The teams combined for 10 walks, seven wild pitches and four hit batters -- the first live-ball-era major league game ever to reach all of those thresholds, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Working for the second straight day in relief, Jonathon Niese allowed a hit to lefty-hitting Cody Asche before recording an out and departing. The Mets entered this week 14-2 against the Phillies this season. Now, the Mets have dropped the opening two games of this series. “The huge buildup we had going into Cincinnati and all of the energy used up in that series -- I know it sounds like an excuse, but it’s reality -- those guys got drained because of that,” Collins said. “We’re not seeing the same quality at-bats that we had. They need a little time to get that adrenaline back in their system.” Collins said the Mets would rest several starters on Thursday. Read recaps in thePost, Daily News, Times, Newsday, Record and at MLB.com.

  • Matz’s postseason rotation spot may be in serious jeopardy because of his back issue. As a result, Bartolo Colon could remain in the rotation for the Division Series. See an NLDS roster projection here. Read more on Matz in the Post, Daily News, Newsday and at MLB.com.

  • Tampa Bay Rays owner Stuart Sternberg remains a Mets fan and will be rooting for them in the postseason. “As a Met fan growing up and all, it’s wonderful to be here in September when things really do matter, and it’s a very exciting time to be a Met fan. And I am still, as well, even though I’ve got the Tampa Bay Rays,” Sternberg told Brian Lewis in the Post.

  • Tim Rohan in the Times discusses the role of the Mets’ team psychologist.

  • Brian Costa in the Journal outlines why the Mets can beat the Dodgers in the Division Series. Among the reasons: The Dodgers have a mediocre road record (36-44), Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke cannot log every inning, and Los Angeles is dealing with injuries to players including to Yasiel Puig(hamstring).

  • Left-handed reliever Dario Alvarez rejoined the Mets on Wednesday after a groin injury healed. He hit a batter and recorded one out in his return.

  • Michael Silverman in the Boston Herald reports that SNY’s Ron Darling is not headed to NESN, which televises Boston Red Sox games. WEEI’s Kirk Minihane had tweeted that NESN was “interested” in Darling.

  • From the bloggers … Mets Report discusses the impact of the latest injuries.

PHILADELPHIA -- Here are the lineups for Thursday's 12:05 p.m. ET series finale between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Sean Gilmartin (3-1, 2.58 ERA) makes his first career major league start. His longest outing this season came on Aug. 24 at Philly, when he tossed 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings in a 16-7 win. Tim Stauffer likely is to follow Gilmartin.

Despite dropping the first two games of this series, the Mets are 14-4 against the Phillies this season. That matches the second-most wins ever by the Mets against one club in a single season. The franchise record is 17 wins (in 18 games) against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986.

• The Mets complete their regular-season road schedule with the matinee. The Amazin's are 41-39 on the road.

• The game originally was scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, but was moved up to try to beat expected rain.
