Marlins, Jordany Valdespin agree to minors deal

The Marlins have signed free-agent infielder Jordany Valdespin to a minor league contract (Frisaro, Dec. 20).

Valdespin did not receive an invitation to major league spring training.

The Mets non-tendered Valdespin in early December – he hit .188 with a .250 OBP and .316 SLG, four home runs and 16 RBI in 144 plate appearances in 2013.

Valdespin served a 50 game suspension for a PED violation as part of the biogenesis scandal in August.
