Look at Mike Carp.

Dude's dropped 10-15 lbs, and doesn't get hurt making routine plays anymore. Weird, huh?

How about some accountability by our training staff, eh? That, alone, could have prevented fatass Montero from blowing out his knee on a routine play.

There's no doubt Carp has been impressive playing for Boston but it'll probably take a little more time to see if he followed the path of other M's as they left the organization. Not to mention playing in Boston helps.

Adrian Beltre had similar success after he left the M's and joined Boston for a year. He posted a .918 OPS vs .683 the previous year w/ the M's.

I can agree with you that fitness is definitely a factor for Carp, but that's not the only thing, it's the fact that he's playing at Fenway vs Safeco that we should also take into account. It's not to say I'm taking away his impressive .934 OPS on the road.

A smaller field like Fenway help HR hitters beef up their numbers slightly. That's not Mike Carp.

Beltre is another who was fat and happy in Seattle, then got fitter (either on his own, or at the request of competent trainers) and has played like an All Star since.

I'll go ahead and go with human to human decisions over mystical and largely irrelevant talk about which park is easier to hit a home run out of.

I think we all saw that he could be good, but he got hurt a lot.

He seemed like a good guy, so I'm happy for him.

This Red Sox fan doesn't miss Beltre all that much. His fielding was too erratic,
and we've got the much more reliable Iglesias now. We are hardly hurting for infielders!

Great game to watch so far!

Finally our offense coming through with some timely hits with runners in scoring position.

Time for Felix to take this one home and seal the W

Ibanez keeps 'em coming and Smoak getting a couple hits from the Right side. Good to see.

Agreed.

Ibanez is unreal. Hope he retires here, no matter what ends up happening between now and July 31...and beyond, I guess.

The kids are showing some good signs, overall.

oh yah, and that Felix guy was pretty good as well. 5 pitch 7th inning. The Sox gave up.

Smoak just got another RBI, good for his confidence I hope.

Ms playing a great game, good to see Smoak hitting well. I bet most of the Boston fans in Seattle think Saltalamacchia is a drink at starbucks.

Smoak is on a roll! He's seeing the ball so well out there and getting some great swings on the ball...three hits today!

Holy fuck Raul. 22 home runs. And people thought he was a player past his prime. I think he was the best FA signing this offseason in MLB. Yes, in all of Major league Baseball. Tell me another player that was a FA this offseason, switched teams and hits 20+ homers before the all star break!

LOL

His name translates as "salt on the stain". Weird name. I'm assuming his acestors were cleaners of some sort?

according to Wiki

Saltalamacchia is Italian for "jump over" (salta) "the thicket" (la macchia, a kind of tall shrub). :noidea:

That makes a little more sense I guess. LOL.

I just used google translate, which isn't very reliable, obviously.

Great game!

Great offensive game (except Bay). Everyone seemed to get involved in some form or another (except Bay)

And Felix had a solid start.
