From Spector's Hockey

CANOE.CA/RDS.CA: report free agent defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron has received medical clearance to return to action but he won’t be returning with the Montreal Canadiens. Five teams are believed interested in Bergeron but the Canadiens aren’t among them. The Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks are reportedly the five.

Calling him a defenseman is a bit of a stretch. If they do sign him hopefully its as a 4th line forward at even strength and he only sees time at the blueline on the powerplay.

I wouldn't mind. The Sharks may just catch lightning in a bottle. Besides, he wouldn't be the worst option as a 7th or 8th defenseman. He's no good in his own zone, but if he can be a cheap puck mover along with an option on the PP, I think it's worth a shot.....if it doesn't pan out, let him go again. The price is right.

Didn't Montreal use him as a power play specialist only in the playoffs last year? Scored a goal or 2 IIRC. For cheap I could see it, although as you guys already stated, it doesn't help the Sharks' woes on defense. I personally would pass. DWil will probably give the guy $1.5M.

He would improve the second power play unit. At least DWil is trying.

The Habs used him as a 4th line forward at ES then on the point on the PP. Bergeron's defense is so bad he would make Wallin look like a $2.5m a year dman. He's fast with a big, accurate, shot and that's about it. His positives, even to the Sharks, wouldn't come close to making up for his negitives IMO.

Isn't he just a wittle guy though that gets knocked off the puck easily. I mean i know when your digging through the trash bin your not going to find gold, but is there any other options?

YaY another rumor! Might be a nice pick-up, but what are the chances Doug offers him anything? 5%
