Dan Campbell on Jameson Williams’ debut: ‘I think we’re looking at December’

The Detroit Lions could be getting an early Christmas present with the debut of rookie WR Jameson Williams now expected in December.

“I think we’re looking at December, if I’m just trying to forecast here a little bit,” Campbell said. “I’m hoping sometime in December we get him.”

Following a two interception performance against Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, Lions safety Kerby Joseph is nominated for Rookie of the Week.

Listening to coaches and players gush over Joseph, further points to this just being the tip of the iceberg for what he, and the defense, can accomplish.

Coach Dan Campbell:

“Kerby’s been—for three weeks now—he has not come off the field and we’re just letting him grow, but he’s been so close. I swear every week, we talk about, ‘Man, he is (close).’ The first time he missed one of those interceptions, he was about an inch away, and then the next one he was about half an inch away, and so now, he’s starting to feel it. He’s got some instincts to him. Some ball hog instincts, that was good to see.”

Quarterback Jared Goff on Joseph:

“Kerby obviously, having a tremendous game. But we’ve seen that from him, he’s a great instinctive player. And it was only a matter of time before it showed up on the field and he got his chances and certainly made the most of them.”

EDGE Aidan Hutchinson:

“Kerby was balling out. Kerby’s a turnover machine so we love it.”

Safety DeShon Elliott:

“Kerb a big-ass kid. He’s a big-ass athletic freak kid. I think Kerb is gonna be playing in this league for a very long time. I’m so proud of that boy.”

Lions rookie safety Kerby Joseph wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

After tallying two interceptions against Aaron Rodgers and adding an additional 10 tackles, Lions rookie safety Kerby Joseph is Week 9’s NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

He also earned PFF’s highest grade (90.1) among all NFL safeties for the entire week and the seventh-highest among all defensive players. Through nine weeks of the season, Joseph’s 83.0 PFF grade ranks second among all NFL safeties.

Joseph becomes the first Lions defender to win the weekly honors since Darius Slay back in 2018. The last Lions rookie to win NFC Defensive Player of the Week was... nobody. He is the first Lions rookie to ever win NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

While he’s not shown the third-round potential yet, the 23-year-old would be an inexpensive trial at a position where the Lions can use upgraded young depth. At minimum, Burgess is a better option than Brady Breeze to step up in case Ifeatu Melifonwu winds up on I.R. or is incapable of playing.

I am always wrong with the DB's coming out of Utah. Everytime I am down on someone they seem to do well. I don't have a great read on Burgess, he never really stood out to me when he played.
