Just like the current batch of big boy hypercars (Porsche 918, McLaren P1, LaFerrari) it is a hybrid and has over 1700 hp. However, where those other cars have an electronic motor to fill in the torque gaps of the internal combustion engine, the Regera does not have a gear box. That's right, no transmission. No transmission weight, no (even millisecond) shifting lag, no power band lag.

The Regera utilizes the electronic engines linked to a hydraulic coupler to get the speed up to where the internal combustion can spin and put usable power down through a single gear ratio.

This dude explains it better than I can:

Koenigsegg has always put some pretty trick stuff in their cars which probably don't get enough press bc their production numbers are so low. They were the first to use an engine without a crankshaft. Their engineering department is about as cutting edge as any of the heavy hitters.

As someone who enjoys driving and has long been nervous about the though of electric cars or hybrids, it's refreshing to see the recent innovation among car manufacturers utilization of hybrid technology, not only in crazy hypercars, but into 'attainable' cars like the BMW i8
