Then why not just shoot his normal shot? If he thought he was going to be fouled and isn't, shooting his normal shot gives him the best chance of making it.

If he gets fouled, shooting his normal shot gives him a chance at a 4 point play.

No reason to shoot like he did unless he's trying to draw contact. All he ended up doing was make the shot more difficult.
