First thing I think of when someone mentions Joaquin is that awkward Letterman interview where he said he was retiring to start a hiphop career. Reading back on it now, it sounds like that was all a set up for a movie I never heard of.

He went full immersion into a movie about himself leaving Hollywood. Only a few people apparently knew it was a huge hoax, although there were rumors that it was some kind of work at the time.

Horrible decision on his part. He did serious damage to his rep while doing that.

Agreed, I honestly thought he'd checked out and that was all real until this thread influenced me to look back into it. It would have been one thing if it was for a hit movie, but it clearly wasn't. I can't even recall hearing much about him since those days until now.

I think “Her” was after, and he got a lot of accolades for that one...

I guess I missed that. I miss a lot of movies these day really and I am sure there are good ones miss too. There's just too many now.

IMO nobody will ever top Ledger's joker. And there's no way you could ever convince me that a voice-act was a better portrayal. Give me a break.

Against my better judgement (and it's still way too early), it looks good. Origin stories tend to drag, so the movie's pacing will be important.

Seems like they are going for a very different sort of superhero movie. Could be amazing. Could be turgid.

Who would have thought that The Joker movie would basically be a violent King of Comedy reboot with Robert DeNiro playing the Jerry Lewis role?

I was never real big on the guy either but compared to Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers he's a legend.
