Im a Yankee fan and u guys just made a great Deal. He is going to hit so many Home runs there and plus lester will sign back with you guys. I think it was a bad Deal for the A's.

Not really. I think most projections had the Sox winning around ~85 games last year. ZiPS had the Sox going 84-78 and finishing third, for example.

2012 was a train wreck, but there was a lot of bad luck around that team. Lester and Buchholz (though he pitched pretty well after a rough first 1-2 months) had down years. Lackey was out for 2012 and the Sox turned to Daniel Bard as a starter (and that experiment did not end well). Ellsbury, Crawford and Ortiz missed most of the year. Middlebrooks' season ended in early/mid August because of his wrist injury, also potentially stinting his development (that and his plate discipline (or lack thereof)). Sox also went through about 35 different outfielders that year.
