Unbeaten Bengals announce rare sellout vs. Seahawks

Unbeaten Bengals announce rare sellout vs. Seahawks

The 4-0 Bengals host the Seahawks Sunday, and the locals are apparently excited.

The game is sold out, a rarity in Cincinnati. The Bengals had about 58,000 fans for each of their two previous home games this season.

In addition to announcing a sellout this week, the Bengals announced that “limited” tickets are left for a Nov. 5 Thursday night game vs. the Browns. The listed capacity for Paul Brown Stadium is 65,515.

The Bengals didn’t get more than 60,000 for a game last year until their fifth home game. They sold out 57 straight games from Nov. 2003-Nov. 2010, but the team struggled in 2010 and longtime fan favorites Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco were gone the next season. The Bengals didn’t crack 45,000 for either of their first two home games in 2011, but the team has been in the playoffs every year since and averaged over 63,000 fans in 2013 before seeing a slight dip last season.

The Bengals were the only team to vote against the NFL nixing local TV blackouts last spring, but team owner Mike Brown insisted that was related to a revenue-sharing issue, not actually forcing fans to come to the stadium to see the team play. Even when the NFL relaxed its blackout rules, the Bengals initially didn’t want to declare sellouts unless they’d actually sold out.

The Bengals hadn’t had a home game blacked out since 2012, and now they’re seeing reward at the box office for what’s been one of the league’s most impressive teams on the field over the season’s first month.

That is going to be a really good game. If Cincy pulls this one off, they are serious contenders ... in the season, but the time has come for them to make a statement. Marvin's on the clock.

Yep statement time for the Bengals. Just don't be silly and wear letter jackets until after you win.

And no whodey stuff that is old.

Cincy is boasting good game on both sides of the ball. They deserve some loving in spite of all the Ravens and Steeler and Browns homers. WHODEY WHODEY gonna beat those Bengals? Hopefully for the fans they are over that BS and the team is focused on winning, which it seems they are.

I have not been to the Cincy stadium as of yet and was surprised reading the max attendance being like 65,000. I guess I am use to the 80,000 at Lambeau and shouldnt assume other stadiums are about as big. I had to check the stats and I guess 18 of the 32 stadiums fit less than 70,000 people. I have a goal to get to each stadium once and have 19 of them done so maybe the next away game in Cincy

Cincy is already a contender and beating Seattle won't prove that any more than the first 4 games have.

I'm hoping for a win but expecting a loss. An early road game against a team that is looking great so far does not bode well for the Seahawks who have been pretty damned good on defense for a few weeks, but look like they're starting 5 kids from the local junior high on the offensive line.

If Seattle wins it's gonna look like the Texans game last year when we had a few Oline injuries and had to win on a crucial pick 6 by Sherman late in the game.

Yes the defense has looked better but when I say that I at least remember it was against teams with a combined record of 1 - 7. Hopefully for you Seattle fans it can continue against better teams.

Cincy takes this game... But I don't think it makes them any more of a contender than they already are. Cincy has a reputation for pulling off great wins & having a successful regular season... But we know from history that doesn't mean shit for postseason efforts.

Obviously, but a shutout and 10 points given up in 2 games still counts.

SEattles D gave up 3 points in 8 quarters of football. (remember the td det got was a strip sack and return for 6 by dets D)

Something about Andy Dalton and the big shining light games. plus Seattles defense, plus it being Cinci and their due to screw up, makes me feel better about this game then I thought I would..

I hate the 10 am start though. thats worth 3 points off the bat to cinci

I thought sellouts, outside of Jacksonville and St. Louis, were the norm in the NFL. A little surprising that a team that has been consistently good like Cincy would rarely sell out.

Good point, does that mean they are always blacked out on in the local market?

Good luck on your goal to see every stadium. Over on your side of the country, the stadiums aren't too far apart from each other. Yet, over on this side it is a longer trek to visit opposing turf.
