RAY KNIGHT READY TO RETURN TO METS

Knight, the 1986 World Series MVP, says he will be among the players and staff who will participate in a pregame ceremony honoring the '86 Mets on May 28. It will be the first time Knight takes part in an on-field ceremony with the team since leaving in '87. Newsday

When New York Mets right-hander Bartolo Colon isn't hitting home runs, it turns out he's inspiring other pitchers to do the same.

That was the case, evidently, on Wednesday night, when teammate Noah Syndergaard slugged two homers off Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda and drove in all four of the Mets' runs in their 4-3 win.

After the game, Syndergaard took to Twitter to say that Colon, who hit his first career home run Saturday at age 42, was the man behind his big night at the plate.

Syndergaard became the second pitcher in franchise history to hit two home runs in a game, joining Walt Terrell, who did it against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Aug. 6, 1983.

Colon will take the mound for the Mets opposite Dodgers ace Clayton Kershawin the finale of the teams' four-game series on Thursday. Kershaw has allowed just two home runs to opposing pitchers in his career.

Jeurys Familia sets Mets record for consecutive saves

New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia now owns sole possession of the franchise record for consecutive regular-season saves.

Familia allowed back-to-back singles to Jayson Werth and Daniel Murphy to open the bottom of the ninth inning, but ultimately stranded both baserunners to preserve the Mets' 2-0 rubber-game win against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

Familia has converted 32 straight regular-season saves since giving up that deflating homer to Justin Upton in the rain last July 30 at Citi Field -- the day before the Mets acquired Yoenis Cespedes.

Familia broke a tie with Billy Wagner, who converted 31 straight save attempts with the Mets in 2006 and '07. Among active streaks, only Arizona's Brad Ziegler has more consecutive save conversions (36).

Familia is 16-for-16 this season. That's tied with Francisco Rodriguez (2009) for the second-longest streak to begin a season in Mets history. Armando Benitez owns that franchise record. He opened 2001 with 25 straight save conversions.

I think it's time to start looking for a long term replacement for Wright. Love the guy but this shit isn't going away. Looks like Wilmer will be filling in for now.

The Loney move was a great one by the way. Decent bat and good glove. This season is starting to remind me of 2009 with all the injuries, except with much better pitching now.

Lucas Duda bides time, rides bike while back heals

•Also: Travis d'Arnaud's rehab assignment officially begins on Sunday night as the DH for St. Lucie. Position-player rehab assignments are a maximum of 20 days. So d'Arnaud, barring a setback, will be back with the Mets within three weeks.

Mets are the walking dead right now. They are going to have to start pulling fans out of the stands to fill positions soon.

I've already notified them, and told them I'd be available to play during their next west coast trip in mid August.
