Red Wings' Pavel Datsyuk to sit out tonight's game at Islanders due to lower-body injury

Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk will sit out tonight's game against the New York Islanders due to an unspecified lower-body injury sustained in Sunday's 3-2 overtime win in Chicago.

Coach Mike Babcock and Datsyuk both said it's nothing serious, just day-to-day, and he hopes to be back for Thursday's home game against Phoenix.

“It's secret information. KGB tell me don't tell no one,'' Datsyuk, who didn't take the ice, said after the morning skate at the Nassau Coliseum. "I feel a little bit yesterday. I hope it's better today, but it's not better. I hope it's one game.''

Datsyuk unable to take faceoffs

Pavel Datsyuk took only one faceoff in Monday's 3-1 loss to Phoenix, as an apparent wrist injury has flared up.

“Nothing major, we just decided that for the next few games he won’t take any faceoffs,'' Babcock said

Red Wings' Danny Cleary to miss a few games after getting knee treated

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings forward Danny Cleary will be out for a few games, coach Mike Babcock said, after he received an injection in his sore left knee.

Cleary left Wednesday's 4-2 win over Edmonton after the second period, after his knee, which has been bothering him for a few weeks, flared up.

Cleary said earlier this week that he would eventually need to have the knee drained, following a build-up of fluid caused by a Baker's cyst that burst. He said he would then need a cortisone injection that would likely idle him for a week.

That's how long Tomas Holmstrom was out after having Synvisc injected into both knees just before the All-Star break on Jan. 26.

Cleary, who assisted on Cory Emmerton's goal in the second period, has six points in the past six games (goal, five assists). His line, with Drew Miller and Darren Helm, has been providing points as well as energy.

Babcock said Cleary's absence will allow Jan Mursak to play. Mursak has appeared in only three games since returning last month from a fractured ankle.

Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg (lower-body injury) out for Friday; Tomas Tatar recalled from Grand Rapids

Detroit Red Wings center Henrik Zetterberg will miss Friday's game against Nashville (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit) due to a lower-body injury, which he said is day-to-day.

Tomas Tatar has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Zetterberg said it happened early in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Dallas. He said he was determined to finish the game and that it got worse Wednesday, during the team's day off.

"With an injury like that, you're warm and in the game, I think it's easier to keep playing,'' Zetterberg said. "I kind of expected it was going to be worse the day after.''

and the injuries keep on coming

DETROIT -- Update from the Detroit Red Wings' practice today at Joe Louis Arena, which started at 2 p.m.:

Defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom and Kyle Quincey are not skating. One or both might not play in Columbus Tuesday.

General manager Ken Holland said both are listed as day-to-day and they'll know more Tuesday. Lidstrom was limping around pretty badly before practice with a "bruise.''

Holland said they might have to recall another defenseman from Grand Rapids, in addition to Brendan Smith. Doug Janik would be next in the pecking order.
