I need help computer/networking people!

That is what I'm thinking. When I was trying to get my old PS2 hooked up years ago that damn crossover cable was the reason I couldn't get it to work. Finally after figuring out what they were talking about when checking the "colors" I found a cable I needed and it all worked perfectly.

There was a time crossover cables were a necessity though because most routers/switches didn't have built in crossover linking for connecting.

The connection is correct. I bought a new switch & ethernet cables today.

The new switch & cables didn't change anything.

My router is a linksys E2500, and a DSL modem.

Did you create that tunnel?

Can you access the router when using the switch? Are you sure that you are getting the right IP addresses and DNS information?

I'm not sure, I believe that may be the problem or part of it.

Funny how quick people are to assume, when several posters made the same joke I did about LOC's avy. Clearly I'm computer savvy enough to hack someones profile as I can't even get a plug & play switch to work on my network.

it's easy to check - plug in computer directly to router and IP will be something like 192.168.1.100 and the gateway will be 192.168.1.1 If it is 169.254.0.1 then you aren't connecting to the router.

Right.

When I connect directly to the router via ethernet, I get the 192.168.1.1 IP... but through switch I have gotten several different results, including the 168... IP.

I took the switch and hooked my XBOX through it... worked perfect immediately. So, I think the routers settings are correct.?.

I can't figure out what the hell it is.
