Foscue has easy power. And it is early and we get injuries. We need to keep him for now

IMO you and to some degree me overestimate our current prospects but I think he is underestimating them. Now we don’t have what some say our alphas minus Leiter and White but there are a lot of legit MLB talent I have not seen for years. Maybe our pitching progresses over the winter but I am guessing some changes are coming re pitching coaches at the MILB level

And with a new coach there may be more house cleaning
If Cole Winn had pitched well this year I believe things would look even better, significantly better.

Potentially, 3 more very good hitting prospects.

A Scott Lucas report on the Round Rock game last night:

I feel terrible for Winn. All I can say at this point is he's been here before and worked his way out. Statistically, his first 14 starts of 2019 and most recent 19 of 2022 are remarkably similar.

In a call-back to his Texas Tech days, Josh Jung hit everything to the opposite field. Jung also took a called strike three in the 1st that I'm 90% sure the robo-ump would have registered as a ball, but the computers have been temporarily ignored in favor of a challenge system (which I think is dumb and convoluted, but whatever). The Express declined to challenge, probably because they were down 6-0 with two outs and none on. A reversed call would have kept Jung at the plate with a 3-2 count.

Smith has continued his torrid hitting outside of Albuquerque. The homer was propelled buy his third-highest exit velocity in AAA, 104.7 MPH.

Newberg and Piellucci sit down and debate the possibility of trading Lowe.

These are excerpts from Jamey Newberg wanting to at least explore the possibility.

Lowe may sit close to alone as far as trade ammunition at the big-league level.

I’m not desperate to get rid of Lowe. His season at the plate has been one of the better developments of the season. But I sure would test his trade market if I were Young.

Let’s say the Marlins properly decide they need to fix their offense and know they probably won’t be able to convince both Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez to take the kind of money they can afford to pay. They lock Alcantara up, then decide to make Lopez available. He’s controllable through 2024, and he’d fit nicely with Jon Gray and either Martin Perez or whomever else Texas adds to the rotation this winter.

What if Lowe and his four-plus years of control plus something like a Justin Foscue/Marc Church package separates the Rangers from other suitors less willing to trade from their big-league roster? Get Miami to throw in (All-Star!) Garrett Cooper’s final year before free agency—maybe that means you have to add someone like Zak Kent to the trade—and now you have your stopgap first baseman until Harris is ready or, say, you decide the best play is moving Jung to first base and making Duran your long-term third baseman.
I believe for now Alcantara is signed through 2026 with a team option for 2027. That's a good start for a team that is able to get him.

Not sure what we should do concerning Lowe. Over the years, guys who could hit like Lowe is doing usually stayed put. Of course times have changed and I am of the old school. I believe we watch Lowe for the end of season to see if he contiues to hit well and if so, keep him. Pitching can be obtained other avenues.
Mantle's life time avg was .298. Can imagine many teams wanted him but he was never traded for pitching. Guess that is kind of where I'm at.

If they do trade him, I imagine the thinking would be that our hitting prospects are much closer to being ready than our pitching prospects. That being said, I don't think they will actively shop him.

Also, there is the old mantra, you can never have enough pitching.

He really projects as a DH and some are in favor of rotating people in and out of that spot instead of having a full time DH. I have never really felt the need to do that, but I think the more positions your DH can play, the better.

It seems that strategy is still in play, with Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reporting that the club will again look to swap some pitching for some more offense. The report lists ace Sandy Alcantara and the club’s top prospect Eury Perez as the two “untouchable” arms on the team, with the others apparently available for the right price.

Well to me we’re getting to the point where you trade to get better and keep the best
This includes pitching and hitters

Upper level Prospects who are blocked can be moved but we need replacement level players or better at AAA. This is where it gets tricky

But given so much pitching needing addressed and some unproven bats we kind of have to wait and see. Exercise patience and strike a trade to not lose rule 5 guys but not be in all win mode given the gap

Btw yeah you don’t move Mantle for pitching

That wouldn't surprise me if Alcantara was untouchable. When I threw out my pipe dream of getting him a week ago it was with the thought they would hold onto him.

On one hand I agree with you, on the other it’s funny.. no team has more SP in the top 100 than the Rangers.
We have 3. Leiter, White and Porter
Cardinals and Dodgers both have 3 as well.
We also have Kumar and Winn, as well as many others.. but yeah. Feel like we need more pitching.

I’m on the side of trading hitting prospects for major league pitching.

How about this? Let's hire Bruce Bochy to manage the squad, re-sign Pérez, sign Ródon, go big and sign Trea Turner, trade some of the IF prospects for a couple of high quality bullpen pieces and make opening day "free beer day".

Just bored and spitballing, lol.
