Hipsters' PBR Obsession Driving Up Prices Of Cheap Beer: Study

Basically, as Chuck Ellis, the head of Restaurant Sciences, put it, PBR has become "quite fashionable." This has allowed bars and restaurants to get away with charging more for the beer's low-price peers.

"I believe the single biggest driver in sub-premium beer price increases is indeed specifically PBR," Ellis told the New York Daily News.

PBR did not respond to a phone call from The Huffington Post Friday afternoon.

So how much more are you really paying? The study found that the prices of popular "sub-premium" beers have increased up to 6.8 percent in the nation's eating and drinking establishments over the past seven months (see chart below).

Or a broke college student. Back in college, I'd get PBRs at the bars because they were like a 1.50.

I'm talking about the year 2013. You didn't order it back then because it was cool to order it. Every time I hear a 21 yr old ordering PBR I just :rolleyes2:

Meh PBR and Coors are my beers of choice. They makes shots go down a lot smoother and are cheap, but not so cheap that they are insanely bad like Hamm's.

Yep, that along with $1 pints of Keystone while drinking at the Rivermill in Blacksburg. I would have a couple good beers and then drink those later in the night to maintain a buzz while keeping the wallet from getting too light. Or just get really good at pool/darts and bet that the loser buys the winner's choice of drink.
