what was it?
20 consecutive winning seasons.

Landry made Meredith & Danny White better football players. Great offensive football HOF coaches like Landry and Bill Walch are more where I was going than a great defensive HOF coach like Belichick.

i think I derailed this with HOF coach.

You do know he was actually a defensive coach before getting the HC job in Dallas, right?

If I were dropping guys into slots, I'd put Harbaugh with the Chargers (who need the jolt) and Vrabel with Washington (who have a chance to build a good foundation).

I think if Vrabel was available.
He would be perfect for the Pats.
With his connections & all that there to boot.

Regular-season records of active HCs when a current or future HOF QB doesn't start for them (minimum 90 such games coached):

Shanahan 114-64 .640
Reid (w/o Mahomes) 183-122-1 .600
Pederson 60-42-1 .587
Harbaugh (w/o Lamar) 102-79 .564
Vrabel 53-45 .541
Rivera 102-102 .500
Carroll (w/o Wilson) 65-67 .492
Belichick (w/o Brady) 83-100 .454

Honorable mention, since talk is hot:
Jim Harbaugh 44-19-1 .695!!!

Chicken or the egg discussion. Do those QBs become HOFers without a great head coach?

Are we really calling Russell Wilson a future HOFer? Do those Belichick numbers include Bledsoe?

Jim Harbaugh had black-balled HOFer Colin Kaepernick....:bolt:

Yes, the Belichick numbers include Bledsoe.

The point is that you have to have 90 games without a HOF QB to make the list, so the chicken-and-egg question goes away.

Shanahan and Reid don't need a HOF QB, Belichick does.

Wilson's HOF chances are probably worse now than two years ago, but he's still likely in I think. Overrated IMO.

Depends on what you consider success; regular season wins or championships?
There's only one active coach with a championship w/o a HOF or possible HOF QB - Doug Pederson, who won with Wentz and Foles.

Regular season wins w/o a HOF QB for 90+ games tells you a lot.

maybe the HOF coaches had something to do with being a HOF QB. I think it's safe to say Staubach gave credit to "the man with the hat". Looks like Aikman feels the same with Jimmy. I bet Montana and Young tips their hat towards the Genius.

maybe I don't understand the point of he thread.

John Harbaugh in 2012, unless you have Flacco or Tyrod going to the HOF

I don't have anything against BB - he's a good coach and I personally think he's hysterically funny. But I couldn't help but notice how much he struggled without Brady, and then I remembered that he didn't win all that much before Brady.

Tom Brady helped in two ways - first because his play was elite, and second because his contracts were always reasonable and therefore his teams could put together better rosters.

True. And Harbaugh is very solid on the list in the first post.

I think he's a dick and his self worth is highly inflated because he landed TB.

I also think he's a very good coach and at best mediocre GM who got blew over every good GM decision he made because he had TB.

He's a great defensive mind as evidenced by this year. And a not so good offensive one. Thus...his weakness was propped up by having the best qb ever.

Something devious about how fast the narratives have flipped on Reid and Belichick in short order.

Just happy Reid gets some credit now that he has rings on his fingers.
