While all facts arent out yet, this certainly sounds damning.
Is there any type of morals clause in the 1 year contract? If so cut him loose and use the $14 million to go after Johnson from Houston.

There usually is some type of morals or behavioral clause in most NFL contracts. The Panthers seem to be taking a wait and see approach. Which is fair since most of these cases come down to a "he said, she said," situation. The only thing anyone seems to agree on is they were both drunk. The accuser failed to show in court to get a restraining order against Hardy, so that was denied and could work against her.

I kind of find this whole thing sad. Hardy has worked his ass off for 4 years trying to prove that he had matured, that he deserved to be in the NFL, and to get that big contract. Now, because what may have been just a moment of anger he could have pissed it all away. Don't get me wrong, if he did "assault" her he deserve to get the book thrown at him. But if he was protecting himself, as he claims, I hope everyone can get past this. We'll see what happens.

Greg Hardy?s arrest leaves the Panthers with scant options | ProFootballTalk

The defensive end signed his franchise tender shortly after it was given, guaranteeing his $13.1 million salary for the coming season.

That alone makes it unlikely they’d simply cut him, since that would drag their salary cap down like an anchor (such that it doesn’t already, with him and Charles Johnson chewing up more than 20 percent of their cap).

The Panthers would be get a credit back against the cap if he were suspended by the league for a number of games, and as history has shown, it doesn’t take a conviction to bring a punishment under the league’s conduct policy. And they could argue that a conviction would be a default of the contract, and try to get the money back, but that would be months down the road.

Another option — and again, it’s very early in this process — would be a trade.

That Ealy pick is looking better, to be sure.
