They really need to get to Lincecum early, he has been bad this year, no reason to let him off the hook.

Offense is so much different when Pedro and Marte aren't black holes, even if the rest of the lineup is doing poorly, Cutch, Marte, Alvarez, and Walker is enough on many nights.

Up 4-1 with your best pitcher going, and I still have a terrible feeling about this game.

It's good to have an ace who can work out of jams.

Welp I step out for a minute, and come back and it's 4-3, standard operating procedure this year.

Raise it! 1-2-3 in the ninth for Melancon, including a diving catch by Cutch, and the Bucs have won their second straight series. Perhaps they're starting to turn it around a bit.

We cant be as bad as our record so far, we will end up around .500 probably, depending on who we trade.

Yeah marte and alvarez transform the offense when they're hot.
I think that the pirates need one other complete hitter. Average, patience, power. Preferably someone who hits from the left side.
That would be why i'm so annoyed about the polanco situation. If polanco is in pittsburgh i think the offense changes from this jekyll and hyde crap to a offense with some consistency and depth. I really do think that one player changes the complexion that much.
I'd love to have a bit of a gap between mccutchen and polanco. Walker would be perfect between them. I'd say something like Polanco - Walker - Mccutchen - Alvarez - Marte would be pretty scary. Marte would really be an excellent fit for the fifth spot in the order.

I think that adding that one hitter would make a really significant difference. It won't be nearly so easy to justify an intentional walk of either of our big hitters and the Alvarez bombs will be more likely to plate multiple runs. Polanco is also a whole lot better in the field than any of the current right-fielders.

I'd probably go Polanco - Cutch back to back, Martin will help too when he's back. You can go 7 deep with above average hitters with Martin in the lineup.

Also good for Josh Harrison playing the util role to perfection.

Agreed on all counts. And I think Harrison has found a permanent home on our bench. It's great to have his versatility, but he can also get red hot for stretches and really give the offense a boost, and that's great to have off the bench.

When Polanco's up, I look to deal Snider for some kind of depth, I guess. Probably in the bullpen, if possible. Ideally, I think Polanco should play center, Cutch in left, and Marte in right, but I doubt that happens. My lineup would be:

Polanco CF
McCutchen LF
Walker 2B
Alvarez 3B
Marte RF
Davis/Sanchez 1B
Martin C
Mercer SS

I think that would optimize everyone's skills, and it's pretty deep. If Mercer gets going, we could have a really good offense, I think, with those guys.

agree with the defensive moves is polanco is as everyone says.
