Definitely. The crosscheck Simmonds took to the head should've been a match penalty. His follow-up punch looked a lot less severe, thought it sent McDonagh down without question.

And...they should have a fucking hearing on the crosscheck to the head by McDonagh. If Simmonds would have just gone down or gotten injured and not been so damn tough, that would have been a five minute major and possible suspension. The league officiating/rules are a fucking joke sometimes.

The problem with this whole thing is that Simmonds was just delivering a completely legal hit and McDonagh crosschecks him to the head, which is virtually unavoidable. So, McDonagh is in the wrong here from the start. The punch he took afterwards, while with a glove still on, did not look nearly as violent or aggressive.

It's a joke of a call at the end of the day and even the league knows it.

I fully agree with you here - and even if one is of the opinion that Simmonds check was late, it in no way warrantes a cross-check to the head in any way, shape or form....
