I just really wonder what Suh and his agent are asking? I bet they are trying to claim that he deserves to be paid as the highest paid defensive player. If not, it has to be more than Atkins.

So what do you feel Suh's value is? If he is demanding a contract that makes him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL -- you think the Lions should give it to him?

My opinion is that Suh is one of the top two defensive players in the league. I'm not going to play 'guess the value of x'. And if my GM gave Sherman a contract anywhere close to what the top defensive linemen in the league make, I would fire him on the spot.

He made the most money ever by a rookie through his 1st four years. 51.7 million. That's an average of 12.925 million per year. I highly doubt he'll seek less in his 2nd contract than what he made off his rookie contract. And the argument of how rookies get paid now can be thrown out the door.

I wouldn't accept that argument for one single second as a GM. His rookie contract was not performance-based; as such, there's not reason he automatically deserves a raise when he was already the highest paid player at his position. There's no reason his new contract has to surpass the annual average of his old one. Both sides should be happy staying right about where he's at in the $12-$13 million per year range...

That's my $.02 on the matter, but my $.02 also doesn't matter to those who matter in this particular matter...

I just hope they involve a little gray matter to the process.

I hope other trade partners view him as the second best defender in the league.

One of the top two defensive players or one of the top two defensive tackles? If you are saying he is one of the top two defensive tackles -- I agree. One of the top two defensive players in the NFL though -- I just can't get on board with that.

I'm curious to see who you feel is the top 5 defensive players in the NFL are.

I think they could get a good DT in the 2nd. Truitt is pretty good. Nobody else is reporting this rumor though. How reliable is the source? Anybody know?

It's "Tuitt" btw folks.

And he actually played DE at ND but with his size he could probably play DT at times. But that isn't his natural position.

Plus I think he'll go low first round.

Tuitt is a classic tweener. Not big and strong enough to play DT and not fast enough to rush from the outside.

Which is why we should pass. I loved him his junior year, but he was slow and fat last year. Plus with his multiple injuries, I wouldn't wanna see him in Detroit.

Why is Tuitt not big and strong enough to play DT? He measured in at 6'5" 304 lbs and put up 225 lbs 31 times.

I'd be more worried about injury history than anything else with him.

I'm still interested to hear who Truth feels are the top 5 defensive players in the NFL. Obviously, he has Suh at #1 or #2 overall. I curious who the other 4 are.

What is Suh worth and what will teams pay for him? Think the Rams would part with pick 2 or 13?

JJ Watt would be far and away the #1 defensive player for me. 31 sacks, 38 stuffs, 23 passes defensed, 8 forced fumbles -- averaging 80 tackles the last two years as a DE is sick. The guy is an absolute beast.

The rest are opinion based and could be slotted anywhere in the 2-5 range.

Robert Quinn -- 23 years old -- 19 sacks to go along with 8 forced fumbles last year. This guy is going to be a stud for St Louis for a long time.

Luke Kuechly -- another youngster (23 i believe) and the man in the middle for one of the best defenses in the league. He is a tackling machine and excels against the run and pass.

Richard Sherman -- He gives me a headache listening to him talk, but the guy backs it up on the field. Led the NFL in interceptions this past year, even though many teams didn't even throw his way.

The last spot could be any number of players -- NaVarro Bowman, LaVante David, Paul Puslozny (sp), Greg Hardy, etc.

I have an infinity for shutdown CBs, as they can completely take a player out of the game and make life much easier on the defense and in today's pass happy NFL -- they are few and far between. So to round out my top 5 -- I'd probably go with Patrick Peterson.
