They sure did. Probably the most frustrating loss this year... and that's saying something.

For me what made it so frustrating was that Felix was pitching he should never give up that many runs or that many hits in a row with the lead he was given.

I was there, and it was incredibly frustrating. Before Felix took the mound, I yelled, "3 runs is all you need Felix," and on any other day in a summer, I would have been right. Somehow a joker put on Felix's jersey and took the mound for the M's last night and it was apparent from the first inning. Hard hit balls in the first and second. Only 1 hit, but no K's and hard hit balls. He clearly did not have his stuff.

I didnt think it could get worse then losing those games in Cleveland and then 16 inning grand slam game happened.
I didnt think it could get more heartbreaking then that and then we blow Bondermann's gem to the worst team in baseball and give up 6 runs in the 9th.
Yet again I still thought it couldnt get worse but then we blow a Saunders Gem on wild pitch and the inability to get a runner to 3rd base.
And yes I still thought it couldnt get worse and then last night happened.

Its amazing how many different ways we have lost in heartbreaking fashion. It really is.

Its almost like watching players trying to lose on purpose!
If I didnt know any better you think these guys are throwning games on purpose!

I don't have the numbers but it truly does seem like whenever the Mariners offense finally gives Felix the run support, he pitches like shit.

Here's some numbers

When given 3 or more runs in support:

164 starts; 88 wins; 30 losses; 3.40 ERA; 1107.1 IP, 1010 K; 12 CG 4 SHO

When given 6 or more runs in support:

64 starts; 44 wins; 5 loses; 3.82 ERA; 426.2 IP; 406 K; 4 CG; 2 SHO.

When given less than 3 runs in support:

90 starts; 18 wins; 50 loses; 2.80 ERA; 622.2 IP; 589 K; 11 CG; 5 SHO

Part of it makes sense, since you want to pitch aggressively with a lead and sometimes they get one or two that way, but that was not the case the other night. Felix just did not have it. Sad for me since I had my Supreme court T-shirt on and a couple K cards and some crowns, but never really got to use them. It got exciting at the end, but I knew our bullpen was worse than theirs, and theirs is pretty bad.

Maybe it was a good idea for his sake he re-signed with the Mariners. Does not seem to pitch very well when he actually gets run support.

Was out that night and didn't catch the game, probably a good thing I didn't.

I would've lost alot money with betting against the team has given him 64 starts with 6 or more runs throughout his career.

You gotta feel for Felix though. In 399 career starts, CC Sabathia has had 83 starts with less than 3 runs of support, Felix is already at 90 in 254 starts. Out of active pitchers with 250 or more starts, Felix has the highest percentage of his starts with less than 2 runs of support.

Here's the full list of all 32 pitchers with 250 starts:

Name Starts <3 %
Felix Hernandez 254 90 35.4
Matt Cain 250 87 34.8
Jake Peavy 293 96 32.8
Ismael Valdez 288 92 31.9
Barry Zito 409 129 31.5
Roy Oswalt 336 104 31.0
Aaron Harang 305 94 30.8
Dan Haren 301 92 30.6
Ted Lilly 331 99 29.9
Bronson Arroyo 338 99 29.3
Ryan Dempster 337 98 29.1
Jon Garland 342 99 28.9
Derek Lowe 377 108 28.6
A.J. Burnett 354 101 28.5
Johan Santana 284 77 27.1
Carlos Zambrano 302 80 26.5
Josh Beckett 312 82 26.28
Mark Buerhle 411 108 26.27
Roy Halladay 384 99 25.8
Jason Marquis 304 77 25.3
Kyle Lohse 345 87 25.2
Cliff Lee 295 74 25.1
John Lackey 306 76 24.83
Jake Westbrook 262 65 24.81
Chris Carpenter 332 82 24.7
Bartolo Colon 390 95 24.4
Esteban Loaiza 333 79 23.7
Freddy Garcia 353 83 23.5
Tim Hudson 421 98 23.3
Brett Myers 252 57 22.6
Andy Pettitte 503 111 22.1
CC Sabathia 399 83 20.8

Sorry, it won't take my graph, so you'll just have to read it.

This may sound a bit ridiculous but seeing as how Felix tends to slack off when he actually gets run support maybe the extra pressure is why he is such a good pitcher.
