Who would do it? We would prob. Have to throw in another low level player but remember this is a new FO so they might try to get rid of him now that they have Tomas. Trumbo could play 1B and would def be an upgrade from Smoak. That would be one RH bat down.

Yes I would do it, but first I would try to sign a player much like him (hacker with power) that is cheaper and wouldn't cost us a player...even Ramirez. Blanks, Young, and Reynolds are three that can do the same thing in a platoon situation from the right side in my opinion.

I was big Trumbo fan 2 years ago and was even wanting us to look to acquire him at the deadline last year even though he was banged up. I am ok with this trade idea but it does deplete our starting pitching depth outside of our top 5. If theres one thing we learned in September its that having 7-8 startable pitchers is important. Right now Erasmo is our #6 and I dont even know who is behind him.

Trumbo's BA and OBP suck. But I wouldn't de-value him based on that alone. Trumbo is just one year and four months removed from a 34 homerun season. There has only been 8 players to hit 34+ homeruns in each of the last two seasons. In 2014 he had 61 RBI in 88 games, that is a 112 RBI pace. With a league-wide severe power outage, you aren't going to get a guy like Trumbo for a pitcher who can't even hold down a permanent spot on a 25 man roster.

Other small pieces would be included with someone like Erasmo. You have to remember that Trumbo had a down year, might have injury concerns and is a free agent in 2 years. He obviously wouldn't cost us someone like Paxton and that's for sure.

No, definitely not Paxton. You're just going from one extreme to another. I'm not sure there is anyone available that I'd be willing to give up Paxton for. He shouldn't be untouchable, but he also shouldn't be traded unless we get a proven impact bat that we can control for several years. I'd have to look at what Arizona needs because I don't know off the top of my head. But, I think our three biggest trade chips (without hurting our team much) are Saunders, Taylor (or Miller but not both) and Wilhelmsen. I guess you would let Arizona see what they want from that group and negotiate from there. A fourth trade chip would by TiJuan Walker but you wouldn't include him in a trade for a guy like Trumbo.

So Blue Jays were trying to get Trumbo and flip him to us for Saunders according to mlbtraderumors.

Would've rather had Trumbo than Saunders. Would also take Trumbo over J.A. Happ although I believe he could have a successful season in Safeco.

I hate having guys like Trumbo and Mark Reynolds. 30 HR's great, but what else? K's, bad base running, bad D, sub .300 OBP,.200 BA.

I'd rather have Saunders or Happ.
