They tendered Polk, a restricted FA, at $1.6 million, which means another team can top that offer and get him away without paying Philly any compensation. I am not a fan of this move, because I am a huge Polk backer. But I think it tells us that they don't think of him as a long term solution to anything and will draft a back or sign one in free agency. This means that Polk and Sproles will cost Philly a little over $5.5 million next year, half of what Shady was getting. If they draft a rookie, it would be a dramatic reduction in the percentage of the cap taken up by RBs.

Are you fucking nuts? Giving Chris Polk who hasn't done jack and is barely available 1.6 million dollars means that he's a part of the committee. No team is going to pay him anywhere close to that. RBs like him are a penny a dozen.

BTW that makes him about the 30-35th highest paid RB in the league.

I would prefer to see them sign him to a multiple year deal, even at a low level, to be the goal-line back. I agree that no one is likely to pay him more, but you never know.

Actually 25th. A few guys jump above him if you count their total cap hit, but there are only 24 RBs that are going to more money than Polk in 2015 right now.

2013:11 carries for 98 yards
2014: 46 carries for 172 yards and a 3.7 YPC average

A multi year contract to Chris Polk?? I guess you are nuts.

I like Chris Polk but injuries have always been the biggest concerns. No one knows if he can handle a bigger role. I had him pegged for the lowest tender as well, I think this was the right call. I'd tender Thornton at the 2nd round level, he's not special a very solid player on the D-line. 2nd round tender is what, 2mill?

This draft is loaded at RB ... plus they can sign a guy like Shane Vereen for around 3 mil a year. I'd like to keep Polk as I think he has good short yardage talent, but if someone signs him away it's not the end of the world.

There should go anyone's idea that he may be envisioned as the starter. I never did. He is good in short bursts. He'd fall apart if asked to do more.

Gotta get a guy capable of 15 or so carries a game at least...and is not injury or fumble prone. Catching ability is also a must imo.

If we don't sign a fa (I think we will)...and we can't get mariota, I wouldn't be shocked to see us pick a guy like gordon in rd. 1.

He ain't gonna be waiting around to round 3 or 4 or something.

I don't think we need to sign a guy who can catch out the backfield. I think Chip wants a one cut and go type runner who can run with good vision, acceleration through the hole and some toughness. He'll use Darren Sproles as a 3rd down back. That's why I think a guy like Mark Ingram and a rookie draft pick (Abdullah) would be more than fine in a RBBC. Ingram gets a bad rap, and perhaps deservingly so after his first few years in the NFL. He still gets banged up here and there, but he's actually a real good fit in our scheme and can hit the hole with acceleration and toughness. He's displayed his talent recently, but the saints were a complete mess last year.

He was used at the goal line, of course his YPC is low.

He has 2 years in the offense. He is serviceable. He'll be here this year and then walk in FA next as we continue to draft a RB every few years.

Perhaps I should have said less. You want to give a multi-year deal to a guy that has 347 total yards in 3 years?
