The Montreal Canadiens had the most points in a season in 1977 when they recorded 132.

The Tampa Bay Lightning now sit at 106 with 15 games to play. Meaning they could earn as many as 136 by season's end. Or as many as 143 if you are really bad at math.

Do you think they will tie or beat the record? Or fall short?

I hope they fall short for a couple of reasons:

1. The Canadiens only played 80 games in the 76-77 season and
2. The Habs didn't have a 3-on-3 OT session followed by a shootout to get bonus points.

I look at only 8 regulation losses over 80 games - If a team can pull that off over a 82 game season, I'll tip my hat to them.

They've got a tough schedule down the stretch. Well, as tough as it can be when you're 17 points up. Three games against Washington and two each against Boston and Toronto. Plus games against a lot of bubble teams - Carolina, Minnesota, STL, Montreal - who will be fighting hard for every point.
