“Yule” is a Pagan winter solstice celebration that originated in northern Europe prior to the Christianization of the area. Part of the tradition of the Yule celebration is/was to burn a large log.

“Deck the Halls” (standard lyrics) is actually a carol of the Pagan Yule celebration, not a Christmas carol.

Christmas is a Pagan holiday.

Well, it's pretty easy to spin the Christmas season as a Pagan holiday given the increase of commercialism and decrease of Christianity in our society within the past 50 years or so. The lines have blurred so greatly on what Christmas is actually all about that Pagan carols are being adopted as Christmas carols and the masses - including most devout Christians - don't even realize it.
