All NFL teams have to be down to 53 players at 4:30 today................

Several big things are in play and biggest is Ryan Mallett. Do the Patriots keep him , which means that they'll have two spots taken up by guys standing on the side line as long as Tom Brady stays upright. No question Jimmy Grappo;o has made the team. Rumors are flying and have been since Wednesday that Mallett will be traded. I heard yesterday that the Rams are very interested and are willing to give a 4th Round pick but the Patriots want a 3rd Rounder. Like all rumors, no source...........If an ESPN or NFL.COm guy says it, I'll put some creadence in it.
Another big deal is whether or not Brandon Bolden has done anything to keep a spot. The only thing I've seen is special teams and he was a hunter/killer when he played.......

My guess is that the roster will be announced at 4:30 and Belichick will make two or three moves before midnight. I predict he will pick up a castoff offensive guard, possibly LB Angerer who was cut yesterday and a TE.

It really appears that most teams are going to wait out the entire day and not do anything until the colleges are in full gear this afternoon.

Heard Boyce is/will be cut. No surprise, Brian Tyms clearly outplayed him in camp and preseason. Could there be some interest in Boyce as a trade, possibly to the Browns who just released Burleson. Being out here in NE Ohio, I know they really need a WR who can get separation now that Gordon is out for the year. Browns are deep on the D line, so atrade might make sense. Also, feel that Jonas Gray has earned a shot over Bolden although Bolden is ST player as well. How about an exchange of Ole Miss RB's? Law Firm for Bolden. The Pats are high on Tyler Gaffney for next year if he is healthy and Law Firm might be a good one year rental.

12:52 p.m.: The Patriots released defensive lineman Eathyn Manumaleuna, according to agent David Canter. They also reportedly cut linebacker James Morris, which is really surprising because that leaves Chris White as the only backup linebacker on the roster. Maybe they think Darius Fleming can play inside, but he hasn't done it in camp. The Pats are down to 57, but they only have to get to 55. If they place Chris Martin on a reserve list, they only have one other move to make.
12:49 p.m.: The Pats are down to 59 players, as noted below, but they only need to get to 55 today. Brian Tyms will stick through his suspension, a source indicated earlier, and ditto for Brandon Browner. It's also possible, if not incredibly likely, the Pats place tackle Chris Martin on a reserve list. With all of that in mind, the Pats only have four moves to make before the deadline.
12:23 p.m.: More cuts, but no surprises this time. The Pats have released defensive tackle LT Tuipulotu, running back Roy Finch, linebacker Ja'Gared Davis and safety Kanorris Davis and offensive lineman Braxston Cave, according to various reports. Finch had a chance to make the team as a kick returner, and the Davises have been good special teamers who could clear waivers. The cuts of the special teamers could bode well for Ryan Mallett. Also, getting rid of Ja'Gared Davis and Steve Beauharnais would seem to be a good sign for James Morris' knee considering the lack of remaining backups at inside linebacker. Chris White is still on the roster. The Pats are now down to 59.
12:07 p.m.: There's been a sudden wave of cuts in the past few minutes. Running back Jonas Gray has been released, according to a source. They've also parted with wide receiver Jeremy Gallon, linebacker Steve Beauharnais, defensive end Jake Bequette, fullback Taylor McCuller, tight end Steve Maneri, defensive lineman Jerel Worthy, according to various reports. All but Maneri have practice squad eligibility. The Beauharnais and Worthy transactions are the most surprising ones of the day. Beauharnais looked like the top backup linebacker, and Worthy played well in his limited opportunities. The Pats are down to 64.
11:40 a.m.: The Patriots released cornerback Dax Swanson, according to a source. Swanson made a bunch of plays early in camp but leveled off before forcing and recovering a fumble against the Giants on Thursday night. He's a practice squad candidate. The Pats are down to 71.
11:15 a.m.: The Patriots released wide receiver Josh Boyce, according to a source. The 2013 fourth-round pick is a practice squad candidate if he clears waivers. Players can begin signing with practice squads tomorrow at noon. The Pats are down to 72 with the move.
11:08 a.m.: Wide receiver Brian Tyms has been informed he'll remain with the Patriots through his four-game suspension, according to a source. Tyms won't be able to do anything at Gillette Stadium upon the official start of Week 1, so it will be a challenge to stay up to speed with the offense. As is the case with any suspension, the Patriots will get a one-week roster exemption for Tyms, too, so they could theoretically keep him through Week 5 without making a transaction. After that, he'll likely need the benefit of an injury above him on the depth chart, or the Pats will release him with the hope of keeping him on the practice squad.
10:55 a.m.: The Patriots released defensive back Shamiel Gary, according to a source. Too much above him on the depth chart to make the 53. Sixth-round pick Jon Halapio, a guard out of Florida, has informed those close to him that he has been released, according to a source. Halapio is a strong practice squad candidate if he can clear waivers. The Pats are down to 73 with the two moves.

At this point, QB Ryan Mallett is still on the #Patriots roster. If he’s cut, the #Texans are expected to claim him. Hasn’t happened yet tho

Long snapper Danny Aiken among 19 players released today.

Mike Reiss
Patriots currently don't have a snapper on their roster, unless they use Rob Ninkovich in that role.

I guess there must be plenty of those around although it's a position you want someone good at.

I'm not surprised by Boyce but think someone will pick him up. He still has potential.

Holding on to him strictly for trade value?
Why let the Texans get him for free...
