Why was he released? I don't think Washington had that great of a line to begin with.

We're cornering the market on average guards and pushing the best one out. Weird.

Yeah, I live in the D.C. area and no one really seems to know why. Doesn't quite fit the power run game they want is about all I get from anyone. PFF had him rated as the 7th best pass protecting RG last season.

Sounds like he is the lighter more agile sort(if you can call 300lbs light), while Gruden wants the 340lb sort of dudes.

As far as pushing Mathis out, lets first note that he has not skipped a single mandatory thing yet. He is just voicing his displeasure, but at the end of the day in the past he has shown up for work and played well.

As far as his displeasure, it makes little sense. He is being paid like he is. A top 10 sort of salary for a top 10 sort of performance. He probably believes he is top 2 or 3, and with a few new signees making $7-8M he can probably make a case for a raise. But Offensive Guard performance evaluation is highly subjective. One man's top 3 is another man's 10-15 rated performance.

Can't blame a guy for trying. Also can't blame the Eagles for planning for him not being there. Mathis needs to understand that Guards are replaceable.

Mathis is under contract.

I don't blame him for trying to get what he can, but he's pushing himself out.

I think he would be a good pickup. Journeyman guard but we could use a journeyman guard right now.

He is also a more athletic guard, a former TE, so maybe he fits this scheme better than Washington's now.

Looks like he's signing with Atlanta. Oh well.
