The whole thing is.
.the pitching...is diferent...and the umping as well...
As far as ..calling balls and strikes
And the zone...

So it takes getting used to..

Umpires have been interleague for over 20 years. That's not a thing anymore. Adam Frazier has simply been bad at his job. And players know pitchers in both leagues. They have every tool at hand to succeed. Some don't. We don't need to make up excuses for that. Just upgrade the position.

It’s actually great because they have Hancock, Kelenic, Lewis, Ford and Evan White still to trade
Castillo has filthy stuff - and I like him a lot - but I do think we gave up more than he was worth.

Saw an interesting theory that the Mariners have been babying Arroyo and Marte in order to increase their trade value. Idk if that's true, or if the Mariners are that smart, but on the bright side, there have been reports Marte might need to move to the outfield which decreases his value substantially.

I don’t think we should give up on Kelenic just yet.. He’s young and could come around
I don't think we should give up on Kelenic yet only because right now his value is about as low as it could be.

That being said, I don't have much faith in him reaching his potential.

Even in AAA he's still striking out a lot which was one of his problems in the majors. The fact that he hasn't been able to remedy that in AAA is concerning to me. If you were to grade his bat-to-ball skills on a 20-80 scale, he's a 70 - but the problem is he gets behind in counts and hasn't been able to improve on that. Watch him in a BP session and he'll absolutely blow you away, but he doesn't seem to have the ability to translate that to quality pitching.

I'd hold on to Kelenic for now unless he was part of a package that valued him as the equivalent of a top-10 prospect.

1 (21): Cole Young, SS, North Allegheny HS (PA) -- $3,300,000 (Pick value: $3,292,900)
Young will officially be in the fold when he puts pen to paper on Tuesday in Seattle, but the club has agreed to terms with the left-handed-hitting prep star on a well-over-slot contract.

6 (186): Josh Hood, SS, NC State -- $250,000 (Pick value:

Edryn Rodriguez......SS..mariners ACL

they forsure need to trade for one

I will say my favorite thing about this trade is that it positions the Mariners to have a great rotation for years to come.

We're not far removed from Marco Gonzales being the best pitcher in our rotation.

We still need another bat for the lineup, it'll be interesting to see what Dipoto does. He may see the return of Haniger and Lewis as sufficient, but if it were me I'd be calling Pittsburgh and seeing what it would take to get Bryan Reynolds. I'd happily package Lewis and Kelenic for him. I hope I'm wrong - if they're not traded - but I don't think Kelenic will ever figure it out and I don't think Kyle Lewis has had his last serious knee injury.

I have to wonder if the selection of Cole Young played into the calculus of trading away Marte and Arroyo.

Sadly I'm willing to admit that I was wrong about Frazier being a quality addition. I didn't expect him to match the .324 average he had with Pittsburgh before being traded, but I don't know what's wrong with him, or Jesse Winker.

I agree. Though I doubt the Ms can stay competitive for a sustained period of time even with those pieces. Trade away 2 or 3 of them for a 2-year window with one good OF / bat, and it’s even harder.

I have to wonder if the selection of Cole Young played into the calculus of trading away Marte and Arroyo.

im not sure....but..we will sure find out....with at least......maybe one more trade for the mariners....or not

free agents...draft...maybe(til aug 2)..still..that would do..for azl...if for.... young..(example).they traded gunn osmoso...

young could play ss..at aqua till next year.....or someone at that lvl......for damage control

Won't really know for several years if this was a good trade or not. It was a lot to give up. But Marte is probably still 2 years away and Arroyo even longer. Just gotta hope Castillo comes in and pitches well here. Also Mariners have to re-sign him. Can't give all that up and let him walk after 2023.

It wasn't an overpay. We gave up what was necessary to get him. Yankees were close on a trade and 11 other teams were in on him. That's what it takes to win an auction like that.

And not only did we ADD the best pitcher on the market, we also avoided having to face him should he have gone to the Yankees, Twins, Guardians, or Rays.

I will say it is highly weird they traded the top two SS’s in the organization when one of the Reds top prospects is a SS. I would’ve liked to keep Arroyo just so he can be dealt in the next deal. But I am curious what the Reds asking price was for Castillo and Drury especially since as I said they now have 3 top prospects who can play his position.
