Can we petition for the team to NEVER use Robbie Ray ever again?

For all of the talk about the strength of the team being pitching, they don't feel like they have a closer they can count on in a big game and their #2 former Cy young starter they rely on when it's not warranted.

Ray isn't any better than Marco at this point. Both can fill in during regular season, but you aren't going to rely on them when it counts.

That they didn't have a lefty in the pen they liked more that Ray says they still have work to do to set this up as a deep pitching roster for next year.

Alvarez is hitting .300 off lefties this season.

You throw the guy that has the nastiest stuff to induce a bad swing. And it sure wasn't Robbie Ray, he had just gotten shelled by TOR a few days earlier.

Ray grooved back to back fastballs right over the plate: The 1st one Alvarez was right on and just missed.
The 2nd one he didn't miss = game over.

How can you not throw a slider off the plate on that 2nd pitch ? Or bust him up an in with fastball on his hands.

Anything ... ANYTHING other than back to back fastballs right down the middle.

Robbie can't be used again in this series. Period. If some weird miracle happened and you faced the Yankees he would for sure be used and needed. Better match-up anyway.

Eh. Ray hasn't had a great year but he is still solid. His contract is a bit high for production but with Castillo, Kirby, Gilbert + Ray is one of the best 4 man rotations the M's have ever had.

The truth is that using Ray out of the bullpen was a big mistake by Servais. This is not so much a Ray failure as a Servais failure.

The lack of bullpen lefties was apparent yesterday. Personally, I would have considered walking Alvarez and pitched to Bergman instead, but hindsight is 20/20.

When the mariners needed him...and they still do..that has not changed....

That's a good point; not like any of these guys have playoff experience, so why wouldn't they give him a shot. I really hope he gets to pitch tomorrow; I work with his dad and our company got a suite for a bunch of us for the game. Would be cool if he came in and shut 'em down while we are there.
