I doubt Gennett would be an everyday player. He is only average defensively but is a good contact hitter. I see his roll as a backup infielder and pinch hitter.Gennett comes in handy if the Reds want to trade Cozart. They shove Peraza to SS.
I also heard Jennings opted out, so that makes Gennett valuable because it lets Alcantara play some outfield. I would assume that Jennings' incentives are off the table so Gennett gets that paycheck.
Not sure what the plan is, but Gennett is learning to play some OF and 3B. Could be they just need a .260 hitter on the bench.I doubt Gennett would be an everyday player. He is only average defensively but is a good contact hitter. I see his roll as a backup infielder and pinch hitter.
