i finally get to see polanco on WGN!!!!

they just announced the pirate D.
Most errors in the NL.
ALvarez has 17.
16 of them are throwing.
so fielding 3rd and making some nice and tough plays, he only has ONE fielding error. that has to be the lowest of all FT 3b in the majors.
Is he a steve sax syndrome, lack of concentration or just erratic.
he has a very strong arm from the occasional game i have seen.

we have pitching coaches, so someone should be able to work with this issue. If not, he would be an awesome 1B unless he can't throw the underhand toss.

It looks to me like he loses his release point when he takes something off his throws on routine plays, causing the ball to sail on him. He also overthrows some on the more challenging plays, but that's going to happen. I'm more concerned with the sailing balls on the routine plays.

It's probably all mental, hesitation or second guessing. When Walker comes back, Pedro may benefit from a few days off to sort it out.

That should be called a violation of Rule 7.13. Baker was clearly blocking the plate without the ball on a tag play. We should be up 1-0.

...or not... :noidea:

We've been hosed on the enforcement of this rule repeatedly. I'm getting bothered by it.

Good inning for Morton, but we should have a run on the board.

I can't believe they decided Baker wasn't blocking the plate without the ball. He was very clearly all over the baseline before he caught it, since Ike slid right into him, and Baker never moved.

That is one complicated rule, its needs clarified further.

Btw, Melancon is the closer now :D

I'd venture a guess it's footwork, and balance.

Also, I really wish teams would start protesting games as soon as these ridiculous home plate calls are made.

Jordy pulled us back to close with a 3-run shot a couple innings after a rough 5-run inning for Morton.

jordy, in june has finely turned it around. Hopefully the pressure is off.
leads team in runs, 2nd in RBI and HR and SLG.
batting over 300.
all this from 7th or 8th spot.

move him up. if marte doesn't hold up in 2nd, mercer would be great between polanco and cutch.
if marte is good in 2 hole, then put mercer #5, and let him have some protection behind with marte or martin #6/7.

our catchers this year were supposed to be great on D and light on hitting.
instead, martin, sanchez, and stewart are
26 R, 8 2B, 5 HR, 36 RBI, 36 BB, 270 BA, 375 OBP, 730 OPS
over achieving.

on D, everybody steals, and martin hasn't figured out the blocking the plate rule yet.
sanchez can't throw anywhere.

The steals are mostly on our pitchers. Most of them are really slow to the plate. And we've been hosed on a couple blocking the plate calls.

Tony Watson can strike out a hitter in a pinch. Nice.
