Well, the Pirates split with the Cardinals in the abridge series, and had an edge in the postponed game, so I'm going to call that thread another success.

Next, the red hot braves come into town. They're 12-2 this year, and look very formidable, which is unsurprising, considering their talent.

The Pirates sit at 7-7, but have been playing better of late.

And there are a lot of talented young outfielders on display in this series.

The projected pitching match-ups are Teheran vs. Locke, Hudson vs. Rodriguez, McDonald vs. Maholm, and Sanchez vs. Medlen.

Go Bucs!

Well, we do not have any advantages in the probable pitchers.

On an aside, I would personally like to thank NH for not pulling the trigger on the Justin Upton trade he was trying to work out. Could you imagine having that almost was in our line-up? Yes I am still pissed we didn't get him. I don't care if it was Taillon and Marte plus for him, he was worth it if you are trying to win at the major league level.

Pedro hit a home run.

Good. Hopefully this sparks one of his wonderful hot streaks.

The few times I have seen Evan Gattis hit I swear pitchers will catch on to him but he seems to be crushing everyone right now. Anyway I have to say is he crushed that HR off of Hughes.

I can see it now Martin and Hughes will be sitting at the bar after the game tonight and this conversation will come up:

Russell says to Jared, "That ball wouldn't have gone out of a lot of parks." Jared says, "Name one." Russell pauses and says, "Yellowstone."

Hughes needs to go. He's been ineffective in every appearance this year.

There has to be someone better.

Pedro with another home run.

Looks like that hot streak we were all cautiously anticipating may be starting. :thumb:

And Snider continues to hit. He's a doubles machine right now. If he's getting it, and starting to reach his potential with us, that's huge.

A true "Pedro Night." 1 HR, 3Ks.

I'll take it, though.

The team OPS still sucks but look at this:

Marte: 364 OBP
Snider: 422 OBP
McCutchen: 323 OBP
Jones: 373 OBP
Walker: 354 OBP
and even Martin: 288 OBP isn't as bad as you might have thought

McKenry is over .400 and Sanchez is at .310

Last year there was McC at .400, Walker at .342 and everyone else was below .330.

Snider and Marte are important here. McC should go up and Jones should go down. That's fine. What Snider and Marte do is going to have a huge impact on our ability to score runs. I think there's cause for optimism in both cases.

he has great stuff and walks the #8 hitter a 190 hitter on 4 pitches.
how does that happen,
why does fort call a 2-0 slider for the #8 hitter. when he has bounced half of them

Good start for J-Mac, and in line for a win with a nice three-run inning.

the BP is stellar. at worst, 2nd out of 30.
plus we have more arms in AAA to use as needed. welker and morris.

hopefully mcd can realize how dominating he can be, quit nibbling and be aggressive in the zone and get ahead. i just hate when he walks people instead of going after them.

that was a great game for him. lets hope he can be a real 3 and string a few together.

Good to get two runs, but a bit of a wasted opportunity there. It looked like Snider was looking for the breaking ball, and the fast ball fooled him. Then Cutch just missed a home run.

But at least they're putting the ball in play hard. That bodes well for the rest of the game.
