Barnwell: Why firing Bill O'Brien is a head-scratching decision for the Texans Why fire Bill O'Brien now? Barnwell on the timing, O'Brien's tenure and the Texans' future

That is a good point about the schedule. And HOU lost their first 3 games in 2018, but rebounded and won 9 straight, made the playoffs.

But from some of the analysis i've seen on the Television, there was also behind-the-scenes friction. O'Brien's abrasive style was tolerated while he was producing results. Not so much when he made terrible decisions as GM, that led to what's happening on the field.

He might have been ok and the roster would be in better shape if he had just stuck to coaching. This firing is more about his GM performance

I think the last straw was trading Hopkins away and now the 0-4 start played a huge role. He really should have only been the HC, not GM as well

The 0-4 start made all the worse due to the fact that his GM decisions have given the Dolphins ownership of the Texans 1dt and 2nd round pick.

Ownership should not have allowed O'Brien to trade away Hopkins.

You know ....I listened to the “straight out of Vegas” podcast....talked about how bill o brien was actually a pretty good coach....and the worst gm ever....,it made 100% sense.....

he’d still hve a job if he just said no to the gm role

Also talked about how before the season started, the Texans first four games were more brutal than any in some time.....

then after all the crap that’s gone on ...you fire him after that stretch of games.....very odd

If they had done this eight months ago, we might still have Hopkins.....
Great news! It is becoming obvious you need more than a Hollywood-style buttchin to make it as a successful HC.

"I think he does a great job,” Brady said of O’Brien. “Four weeks ago, everyone was so hopeful about what the season could become. You hate to see things transpire as they do and to lose a coach four games into the season doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. It’s always tough when you see that happen, especially four games into the year.”

“I think he has great leadership ability. It’s a very difficult part of the profession and I thought he did a great job in Houston over the years.”

its all JJs fault

ESPN Houston's John Granato reports J.J. Watt had a "heated exchange" with ex-Texans coach Bill O'Brien that led to a player revolt and ended up getting O'Brien fired.

Watt "called out" O'Brien's coaching ability ahead of last week's game with the Steelers. That created pushback from other veterans, and the winless Texans made the decision to move on after another loss. O'Brien also reportedly clashed with EVP Jack Easterby, and had a well known power struggle with ex-GM Rick Smith. Houston made the playoffs four of the last six seasons and had a .520 winning percentage under O'Brien, but it's going to be hard for him to land a retread job this offseason.
