We won big. I wanted a blowout today to have a week off from high anxiety mid game. We got it. Who dey?
He's hard not to like. Watch Burrow's interception too.... You'll see Chase hustling from across the field to get in on the tackle. He doesn't play like a diva wide receiver at all - He's 100% football. And he's probably already our best player.Ja'Marr Chase might be a better blocker than Penei Sewell. Plus, his ability to catch is a fine bonus.
LOL. He was yesterday anyway. Sewell is still barely 20 so this is good experience for him to play against men. He may need even more than this year because he is so young.Ja'Marr Chase might be a better blocker than Penei Sewell. Plus, his ability to catch is a fine bonus.
I'm interested to see his development. He looks much less athletic than I assumed he would and I'm guessing that is because he is still figuring out how to play the position at this level. That year off probably didn't help him much either given his stage of development. Our first round left tackle from a few years ago, Jonah Williams, was a seasoned vet after all of his college experience..... And he's just now starting to really look like a good pick. Definitely not an easy transition to the NFL for tackles.LOL. He was yesterday anyway. Sewell is still barely 20 so this is good experience for him to play against men. Chase is definitely becoming a stud. Burrows is definitely better than the crop in the last draft and should keep you guys competitive for a long time.
I agree. However, that INT by Burrow was off Chase's hands and it wasn't a hard catch. Just got on Chase too quick I think and he couldn't bring it in. Chase has been worth the admission to the game. Williams has been hurt most of the beginning of his career too. IT is easier to be a better player when you are not coming into the game half the man you usually are.I'm interested to see his development. I was just joking because of how much the Bengals got blasted by the "experts" for selecting Ja'Marr Chase over Penei Sewell. Now those same experts can't help but pat themselves on the back and say they called it with Chase.LOL. He was yesterday anyway. I agree about Waynes. He is never healthy, has not helped us, costs 14 million dollars. Between a new RT and new starting CB, get one in free agency and the other in the draft I think we have done a really nice job building this team.Couple of other thoughts:
1) I was fairly neutral on the Hendrickson signing. I didn't know much about him and was excited about his stats. A lot of the talking heads swore up and down that he wasn't as good as the guy we let walk (Lawson). I think it's pretty clear that he was worth every penny. He's made a huge difference for this team. Great player. And geez did he make Sewell look stupid.
2) Taylor is getting bailed out by Jamar Chase and individual talent.... His wide receiver screens aren't working and his 3rd and short approach is embarrassing. It's hard to imagine Joe Burrow having bad stats for the intermediate passes, but here we are.... I like some of the things that Taylor is doing with the team, but I think they need some extra help on offense. This offense can never have three straight 3 and outs - Too much talent fo that to happen.
3) All of those years that we are told that you can't win through free agency..... DJ Reader, Hendrickson, Chidobe Awuzi, Mike Hilton, Vonn Bell.... Almost half of the core of that D came over in free agency. And, the D is pretty damn good. If anything catches up to them this year it will be a lack of depth for pass-rushers and defensive backs. Getting Osai back next year will be big. Cutting Waynes and getting some new DBs will also be huge.
Yeah, Sewell's history looks a bit more concerning now - at such a high pick - you have to wonder if there was enough tape to really justify going that high off 1 season. Then, IIRC, he was out the next season, and sat out 2020. So, a lot of projections going on with his career. The more I thought depth was available by trade, or in round 2-4, I thought the Bengals should move away from him and then more towards the TE from FLA.I'm interested to see his development. At this point - I'd re-sign Waynes at a reduced rate to see what he can offer, and re-sign Awuzie.I agree about Waynes. He is never healthy, has not helped us, costs 14 million dollars. My biggest concern in Bates. I really like him. I like the tandem of Wilson/Bates. They remind me of a poor mans Lewis/Reed of the Ravens. I think a combo like that is worth keeping together.
I eventually moved off Sewell, but really wanted the TE from FLA.I agree. However, that INT by Burrow was off Chase's hands and it wasn't a hard catch. I will have to check him out. I haven't seen him play, but with how Cincinnati is moving up the CFB Rankings, I may get some more opportunities. At this point - I'd re-sign Waynes at a reduced rate to see what he can offer, and re-sign Awuzie.
I think they need to look for a true #1 DB in the draft, though. Could UC's Ahmad Gardner be around in the middle of round 1 for the Bengals to keep him in Cincinnati?
If you don't know anything about this kid, he's been the real deal. Even when faced with the better competition. However, it's not just his "cover" skill that makes him elite. He is a great tackler, takes on blocks in the screen game, and what sets him a part is he has ELITE recover speed. And I do mean ELITE. Tall, rangy, with elite speed. Best suited for man/press man coverage, as currently used by the Bengals.
8 career INT. Broke into the starting lineup as a true freshmen in the biggest game of UC's season that year against Highly touted UCF.I will have to check him out. I haven't seen him play, but with how Cincinnati is moving up the CFB Rankings, I may get some more opportunities.
Yes. And I get it too. They act like players are guaranteed to have success at the next level. Its a crap shoot for 98+% of the players in the draft. Those same dopes always have the Lions picking a DE in the draft. We never do. Although I would have liked Kwity Paye (Another RI kid).I was just joking because of how much the Bengals got blasted by the "experts" for selecting Ja'Marr Chase over Penei Sewell. Now those same experts can't help but pat themselves on the back and say they called it with Chase.
I like Sewell, just tired of all the shit storms the Bengals get in the media. You get it, you're a Lions fan right?
My goodness, he is so tall and skinny that he looks like a WR. Fantastic strength at point of impact though.8 career INT. Broke into the starting lineup as a true freshmen in the biggest game of UC's season that year against Highly touted UCF.
He's scored more TD's as a CB than he's given up: 2 - 0.
The passer rating when QB's targeting him is somewhere near 30. You get a 39 if you throw the ball in the ground.
He's become such a threat that teams refuse to target his side of the field. ND tested him just twice, I think. Teams just don't throw his way knowing he's over there. I mean, it's like watching hey-day Revis or Sherman. Teams just refuse to throw towards him.
Here he is in the last game coming up to make an open field tackle on a WR end around:
