lol I thought the same thing. When I got home, it was just sources. I was convinced that it was going to end up being one of those stories where the sources are total bullshit.

I would LOVE to have Buzz. There's no way he'd leave Marquette for us though. We'd have to back a dump truck up to his house filled with stacks of cash and all you can eat London Broil

Buzz appeared in studio on the halftime show of the Texas/Mich game today with Greg Gumball, Clark Kellogg, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley. If you missed it, here's a summary best I can remember:

-he's already decked out in VT pin, maroon tie, orange hanky

-Right off the bat, Gumball asked him why he left Marquette. He dodged the question and just said he was thankful for his time there and is really excited for the challenge at VT

-I think Kellogg asked him about what its been like the last couple of days. Buzz just said its been a whirlwind, he loves the challenge of making VT competitive in what he feels is the toughest conference in the country, etc.

-Kenny asked him what he thinks VT has to offer. He said he's met with the players this morning and felt the meeting went well and that he's called most of the recruits currently committed. He said he also has a few other people he'd like to recruit. And then went on again about that while it will be challenging, he feels he can get it done

-Barkley asked him about meeting with his former players to say goodbye. Typical response about how hard it was but he generally seemed like it was really tough on him.

-Barkley then said he loved Buzz's style and thinks he'd be great to play for (everyone agreed) so he asked him to describe it. He said he's full of energy, expressive, and loves to have fun and believes if everyone on the team commits to working hard, its easy to have fun (or something like that)

-Kenny asked him for a recruiting pitch to come play for him at VT. He said well I'd invite you over but right now I'm living in a hotel but as a PG, I want you to have the keys to the team. Kenny said "SOLD!" and Barkley responded "With a player like Kenny, you better rent a house instead of buy" to big laughs as the segment closed.

All the analysts really seemed to enjoy and respect Buzz. That says a lot, especially coming from Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley. And yes, I geeked out every time they threw up a "Buzz Williams- Virginia Tech Head Coach" graphic.

IMO, Wake is shooting for a bigger name than Shaka.

Apparently Shaka is originally from Wisconsin. Maybe that factored into the decision?
