Does anyone who was around when bonds was in Pittsburgh think that this is good?
He was a good player and did win NL MVP but he didn't do much else except fight with everyone from Leyland to the media to fans.
He should just stay out in San Fran. and pretend he didn't do anything wrong.

Yeah glad he can come back.

I think it is pretty cool huge fan of his in the past, along with Leyland and Jack Wilson coming back.

Bonds was the man.

His head became a second man, sorry bad joke.

But yeah he should be able to come back and do something with the Pirates. Not for him they would not have had all that success in the early 90's. Granted they had talent but he was the reason they were great.

Sure, Bonds looks like he did enough juice to kill a small horse, but he was a great player. SOMEBODY put up all of those numbers. His intitial are BB whether MLB or myopic fans want to acknowledge it or not.

Glad he is coming back, will give the haters a chance to show what assess they really are by booing him during Cutch's MVP ceremony.

Yep.

Just think they would probably be the same folks that would cheer Giles or Kendall these days if they came back. But those two were so good and did so much for the Pirates <sarcasm>.
Lets see one Juiced big time also and the other was a club house cancer.

Haha, yeah those guys were huge jagoffs too, they tortured Jack Wilson because he wasn't as miserable as they were.

And why does Leyland get a pass? He left, and then decided to take the Detroit job instead of the Pittsburgh job when given the chance.

Great point but come on now he still lives in Pittsburgh that is good enough for those type of folks. Heck Sid Bream should be chastised more but they treat him like a god in the Pittsburgh area since he still lives in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I'm not saying he should be hated or anything. Just the double standard is strange.

Leyland went home, just like Bonds. Can't fault people for wanting to work where their heart was as a kid. IMO anyway. (I loved the Pirates during the Leyland and Bonds years. Glad some of your greats will be there for Opening Day.)

Yep totally agree, I didn't mean hatred either, but makes no sense that he will get boo'ed but others wouldn't.

Drabek left for the big contract and never came back to Pittsburgh. Hypothetically I doubt anyone would ever boo him if he presented a Cy Young to Gerrit Cole.

Totally agree with you on both. We are just pointing out the double standard that Bonds is chastised but there have been others with the same type of ending in Pittsburgh that get off the hook.

I love the fact Bonds will be there opening night.

I'm glad he is coming home and if i were there I would clap for him.

I still remember living in my apartment when I was 20 and massively impaired and when Bream scored that run, and I tossed my little 13 inch tv in the fireplace..

Bonds and Jack Wilson are my two favorite Pirates ever. I am overjoyed that they will both be there opening night. I wish I could be there, but I won't even get the game on tv. One of these days I will retire and move to Pittsburgh and be a season ticket holder, but not for a while.

I think it's a good move. I'll be streaming the game, and hopefully the ceremony, while I'm at work tomorrow.

And whether or not people hate Bonds (he was a jerk, but he was probably the greatest hitter I've seen in my short lifetime), they do need to remember that the moment is to honor McCutchen, and they should (but won't) act accordingly.

There were definitely some boos in the crowd.

I wonder if Bonds had been juicing while in Pittsburgh, would he have helped them to win a playoff series? :noidea:
