My bro is sending me his H1 because his company moved to the next model. I'm just going to use it on the boat for GPS navigation and maybe for some normal tablet purposes. http://www.fugawi.com/web/products/fugawi_marine_enc-in.htm

But why would anyone buy a PITA Android tablet when for the same or less money you could have a mostly unbreakable, waterproof version that uses a Windows OS??

Because Windows is not "cool" like Apple and Android.

Sure will...will have it by Friday. I'm gonna load the marine navigation software on right away and take it out. Will be interesting to see if there are software hangups with the internal GPS or whatever.

I had a regular toughbook laptop on a boat about 5 years ago. It was great...got douched with saltwater and rain often and banged all up with no problems. I thought they were more expensive - a bunch on Ebay pretty cheap from hospital use.

which NAV software do you use?

I've got a sweet app on my phone.... iSailor. Free and you just pay like $5.00 for map regions.

Also, you should check out www.activecaptain.com and OpenCPN. OpenCPN is a completely free fully functional chart and navigation software that is fucking sweet....

I've used a couple of 'em. On the old Post I had some program called "Captain's .... something something." It basically took the charts you can upload free from NOAA and put your boat in the right spot. But that was over 10 years ago.

The boat I spent the most time in new areas, the F36 Trojan I restored, had another old Toughbook and I had NobelTec on it. It was perfect all the time. It had really great 3D detail for all those shallow spots in the FL Keys. Nobeltec Navigation - The PC navigation software you trust

Several old salts I know use Maxsea but I never have: MaxSea Marine Navigation Software

I thought I might try Fugawi on this one? http://www.fugawi.com/web/products/fugawi_marine_enc-in.htm But I'll take a look at that one you linked in a minute.

Well, I finally took a couple hours tonight to take the Toughbook Tablet out of the box, charge up all 4 batts and check it out. Basically it's just a tablet PC, running on XP and not that Android shit, that's a toughbook.

Sure, it's twice as thick and twice as heave as an Ipad. Other than that, I really can't believe how awesome it is. It has no open ports (no fan, etc) so it's waterproof. Supposedly, it's shock resistant enough for a 6' drop. You can use the stylus or your finger.

It comes with a cradle that charges the 2 batts you're not using and has 4 USB ports. So, you can plug a keyboard, mouse and everything else in there if you wanna pretend it's a regular laptop. It appears to have an 80G harddrive and runs on 1.6 DDR. Runs fast...can't find any hangups. Even has a little camera, fingerprint scanner and, for some reason, a barcode scanner.
I'm gonna use it for navigation out on the water. So, one of the first things I checked was the brightness of the screen - you can make it really bright and it'll work great. Will put Fugawi 5.0 marine nav. program on tomorrow because that version has a good app for the smart phone.

That's not mine...just grabbed a pic like it off Images. But if KS Berd is a chick, I'd probably fuck her if she wanted to.

In short. No.

Also, that thing looks like a child's toy.

Well, I guess you'll be using your Ipad in a pink case then while I'm slamming this bitch through 8 footers on route to the blackfin tuna hoards.

Hell no. I hate IPads. I'll be head-desking and chanting, "My life is stupid, my life is stupid, my life is stupid," while you're out slamming that bitch through 8 footers en-route to expedite the death of the oceans.

1. You're thinking of bluefins. There are plenty of blackfins.
2. I thought it was "desk-heading?"
