If you go to the earlier posts, you'll see that the Bengals owned just about every tie-breaker. Now they lose just about every one. I can't believe it, and this coming from the guy who's pessimistic all season.

If we win out, in order to make the playoffs:

1a) we need the Jets to lose 2 of their next 3
OR
1b) lose to Miami Week 17

AND

2a) we need the Raiders not to win out
OR
2b) in the case Denver loses to KC and the Raiders win the division, we need Denver to drop 2 of their last 3

The Jets have a tricky schedule. Philly showed some life yesterday - I definitely wouldn't want to play them in Philly right now. They also have a 'home' game against the Giants. The Giants can beat anyone in the league when Manning's head is right.

I agree. We need quite a bit of help, but it's not far-fetched to believe that we get that help. As you mentioned, the Jets schedule isn't cake, and Oakland still has the Lions, @KC, and SD. Lions + 2 division games with SD coming alive some. I can't imagine the Lions would have trouble scoring with Oakland's swiss cheese defense.

The most far-fetched thing here might be the Bengals winning out.

7 teams since 1990 have missed the playoffs with 10 wins. If we get to 10, with our luck, I'm sure we'll be the 8th.

1. Broncos: 8-6 (Denver holds tie-breaker)
2. Jets: 8-6 (*Jets currently hold tie-breaker)

Bengals: 8-6
Raiders: 7-7 (**we currently hold tie-breaker but not in our hands)
Titans: 7-7 (we hold the tie-breaker)

*No head-head games. Conference record is tied. Jets win the common games tie-breaker. Only way we win this tie-breaker is if Jets lose to Miami and we beat Baltimore in Week 17. Jets have NY and @Miami remaining.

**No head-head games. Conference record is the next tie-breaker. We're at 6-5 and the Raiders are at 5-5. A tie here sends it to common games which the Raiders win. Oakland wins the tie-breaker with a win @KC and SD.

Yes, if we win out we're in. There's almost no chance both us and th eJets win out...which is why only 7 10-6 teams since 1990 have missed the playoffs. It just doesn't happen.
