With the numbers being thrown out, John Lester is supposedly going to be offered between $150,000,000 and $175,000,000 to pitch for 6 years. I know that pay for professional athletes can be mind numbing but these numbers say he will be paid between $825,000 and $925,000 for every start he makes.

How the hell can a team justify that kind of salary. They be lucky if he wins half to three quarters of the games he starts. What happens if he starts to slow down or can't locate his fast ball.

I think professional sports are really starting to price themselves to death. I don't know about the rest of you, but $15 beers and $12 hot dogs don't appeal to me anymore than $75 Bleacher Seats.

In 2013, the Red Sox captured their eighth World Series overall, and third in the John Henry era (2004, 2007). The success on the diamond translated to a 14% increase in the team's local television rating, to 7.3 on the New England Sports Network. The Red Sox own 80% of the highly profitable regional sports channel. Last year NESN generated operating revenue of $230 million and cash flow of $60 million, according to S
