There are still six weeks until the trade deadline, so the Yankees have some time to think things over, but they have many questions to ponder. Let's go over five.

1. Is it time to trade Nathan Eovaldi before it is too late?

Eovaldi has tantalizing talent and is just 26. However, something holds him back, which makes him untrustworthy at the top of the rotation. He is still young enough to change and, of course, the Yankees would fear him blossoming elsewhere, but as he demonstrated on Tuesday night (six earned runs in four innings to raise his ERA to 4.90), he is too inconsistent.

2. Should they trade any of the big three?

Even if the Yankees stay in the division and/or wild-card race, it would not be surprising if they dealt one of the big-three relievers. While Dellin Betanceslikely will stay, they could trade free agent-to-be Aroldis Chapman instead of trying to pick up a first-rounder.

Or do they deal Andrew Miller, who would probably bring a bigger haul since he has a reasonable two years and $18 million remaining on his contract after this season? It is not impossible to imagine the Yankees trading both with the eye toward the future.

3. Should they trade Carlos Beltran?

Beltran has been the Yankees' best player this season, which gives him value on the trade market. In the last year of a three-year, $45 million deal, the Yankees are unlikely to re-sign him because he is best suited for designated hitter at 39 and the Yankees have Alex Rodriguez for one more year. With that said, they may not gamble and offer Beltran the qualifier in the offseason out of fear he would take it. Thus, trading him this year could result in assets for the future. Beltran missed Tuesday's game with a sore knee.

4. Do they let Rob Refsnyder play?

The answer seems like a no. It has been clear for a while -- the Yankees' hierarchy doesn't fully believe in Refsnyder. With Ike Davis on board, it appears Refsnyder will play first only against lefties. Refsnyder is a man without a position, and his bat -- at least in the Yankees' estimation -- is not good enough to find one regularly.

5. Do they eventually play Aaron Judge?

This might be a no, at the present time, because Judge is not mastering Triple-A yet, which makes it hard to justify giving him a chance anytime soon with the Yankees. In 60 games, Judge has hit .247 with nine homers, 33 RBIs and .739 OPS. Not terrible, but not great.

If there are no injuries, it seems doubtful Judge is coming up anytime soon. If the Yankees fall out of it, it would make some sense to trade Beltran and see how Judge looks at Yankee Stadium.

The answer is YES to questions 1-4

The answer is NO to question 5

Aaron Judge is 24 years old, not 19
he is quickly approaching the BUST stage of his career

As far as being sellers, i think they will wait till late July, as a bidding war for the Big 3 in the bullpen, could get tasty......Giants/Cubs/Rangers/Mets/Pirates and now the Nats, should all be looking to add a difference maker like Chapman or Miller

I wouldn't go that far just yet. But his AAA performance (or lack thereof) is disconcerting. FWIW, Judge has been mashing in June (.340/.483/.532) and has much better BB:K numbers lately (11:10; he had 16 walks and 55 strikeouts in April/May), though it is a small sample size.

Pirates need more than just relief help. Their rotation outside Cole has been abysmal. Taillon looked good yesterday, but he's only made two MLB starts. Liriano's always had shit command, and Locke/Niese are mediocre pitchers.

Beltran has been the biggest surprise for me this season. Never expected him to be doing as well as he is right now.

To add to that is the fact that his numbers on the season are almost right in line with career averages. Little bit less walks, little more strikeouts, little more power would be the difference that stands out first and honestly that can probably be attributed to approach and home venue.

yea hes old had his knee drained today:suds:

Carlos Beltran is dealing with left knee soreness.

That would explain why he isn't playing Tuesday against Colorado. Beltran woke up with swelling in his knee and will have it checked out tonight in Denver. The 39-year-old has been far and away the Yankees' best hitter this year, batting .277 with a team-high 16 homers and 44 RBI. Aaron Hicks will handle right field in his absence.

Yankees are in for a few changes I think. Not so much a rebuild but a general tweaking of the roster is needed.

Gotta trade Beltran and Chapman IMO.

I would've given Refsnyder more time as well.

But he's blocked by a pretty solid defensive tandem up the middle and headley is at 3B.

KC would be a good spot for him to land, just not sure for what.

Five questions facing last-place Yankees

Hold onto Eovaldi - Not a big contract and they seem to win when he's on the mound. Still young enough.

Trade Chapman, he's a free agent regardless and he's going to want a big deal after the year. Hold onto Miller unless you get a deal you simply can't refuse. Betances goes no where. Young, real good, not making $ yet.

Trade Beltran, he's not in their future and they should get a decent return since he's hitting and has a playoff pedigree.

Judge hasn't been all that good so leave him in the minors until Beltran is traded and then bring him up and give him a shot.

Betran started lighting it up when he was DH'ing in A Rod's absence. Playing the field will limit him so they should trade him to a team looking for DH help for a run

Between Beltran and Tex 38 million comes off the books after this season, then after 2017, 46 million comes off the books with A-Rod and CC. That frees up a ton of money going into next year's off-season. Would have been nice if they didn't over pay for McCann and Ellsbury(who's been alright), but there's no question the Yankees need to get younger. Trade Beltran if you can, trade Chapman and Miller if you can. This year's team isn't going anywhere so having all that great bullpen depth is pretty meaningless.

They need to get out of the habit of signing and overpaying 30 year old players to 6/7 year deals for more than they are worth.
