"Carson Palmer walks away from the game at 38 years old with at least another 10 years of playing ability left in the tank."
He didn't have ten years of playing ability when he got to the league.

A lot of these guys had to retire due to injury.

19. Billy Sims
18. Sterling Sharpe
17. Tony Boselli
16. Earl Campbell
15. Bo Jackson
14. Terrell Davis

This was my main thought about this entire list. Prime I guess maybe by age but their bodies were far from prime.

Robert Smith was really becoming one of the best rbs in the league as well. Not sanders like, but his retirement came out of nowhere. Didn't he want to be a doctor or something?

Yes, he was offered a big contract, but hung up the cleats anyway.
Not sure if he went back to school or not, but he wrote a book and is still doing commentary on college ball.

I'd quit my job if somebody told me I'm stuck with Charlie Batch for the next five years.

So stupid, Barry Sanders did NOT retire in his prime. He was tied for his lowest YPC, had the fewest TDs per carry, and was 30 in his final year, not to mention he was over 3K carries.

That's not prime. Barry Sanders was already on the decline. If he'd played another few years his stats would've been extremely mediocre and continued the proof that RBs after 30 are meh.

That's part of the reason I think people romanticize Sanders as well as Jim Brown, they never had the end of the career shell of their former self years.

Lame...most of them had serious injury issues, and when I read the name Jake Locker I wondered if @AlaskaGuy wrote this trash
