The portal has made me slightly more optimistic

The portal has really changed the draft. Really no reason now to draft guys like Malachi Nelson (just an example early) early. A guy who had no chance starting next year minus an injury and hits the portal a year later after looking like a good keeper option.

Even Caleb was technically one of those but rattler just totally and completely fell apart under the pressure

I don't think you can tell us who and who we don't need picks of.

Who is Taylor Pitts?

Well, you just sorta proved a point why those picks can be good early. They are a gamble but for every Malachi Nelson you have a Caleb Williams. That is why they are called high risk/high reward picks. Nelson was obviously picked as a keeper only and IMO wasn't an awful pick if you really want a keeper their but I am just saying it is 5 times more riskier now with the portal and the trends we are seeing.

This is the first year I took a chance on a non starter keeper option kind of earlyish. Glad Nico Iamaleava should at least start for Tennessee next year, hopefully he ends my keeper curse and puts up some big numbers.

But yea seems kinda pointless to do it now with the portal. Maybe late late round fliers but it's no longer worth the risk in the first half of the draft.

This is the first year I took a chance on a non starter keeper option kind of earlyish. Glad Nico Iamaleava should at least start for Tennessee next year, hopefully he ends my keeper curse and puts up some big numbers.

But yea seems kinda pointless to do it now with the portal. Maybe late late round fliers but it's no longer worth the risk in the first half of the draft.

I don't remember exactly where you took him but I thought it was a good place at the time I remember.
