Probably a stupid question, but this is my first season playing the Yahoo fantasy league. Only the 4 starters receive points, correct? So why do we need to pick drivers for the bench?

yes, only the four starters score pts during for the race. Your bench drivers can score you qualifying pts, but no race points. You select bench guys because once qualifying starts you're not allowed to change your roster. So, after qualifying, you may want to tweak your line up and move a bench driver into a starting role if they are having a good weekend or something or something happens to your starter.
