kicks off tonight in Shawinigan with the host team facing the Edmonton Oil Kings. London and the defending Memorial Cup champion Saint John Sea Dogs are the other teams in this tournament and they play tomorrow.

I just want to see Kabanov have a good tourney. Not many 3rd round picks are given an ELC as quickly as he was. From a skill standpoint he was considered in Hall's class. I want to see that skill on display at this tournament.

I agree. Always tough for the host teams that are eliminated early to play that first game after sitting for a few weeks.

I wouldn't count Shawinigan out of this tournament. Brandon Gormley had been out of the lineup for a while with an injury and had only recently returned when they got knocked out of the Q playoffs. He probably wasn't 100% but probably is now. Also they may not have been playing desperate hockey since they knew they were guaranteed a spot in the Memorial Cup.

Also the team that knocked them out (Chicoutimi) of the Q playoffs, were the Sea Dogs toughest challenge. Yes the Sea Dogs beat Chicoutimi 4 games to 1 but 3 of those games went to OT with the Sea Dogs winning 2 of them.

The penalty on Pysyk that lead to Shawinigan's second power play (and goal) was awful. That ref should be ashamed, lol.

The ice surface looks terrible so far. The puck is moving weird and several players have blown out tires.
