Let's ask a USC fan how SC manages to play a 9 game conference schedule and two regular season P5 OOC opponents every year. There has to be some kind of magical phuckery involved.

If there's any SC posters reading this please explain how USC manages to do this.

Because they have a permanent cross rival, the same as most teams that play 2 P5 OOC opponents.

You really need someone to explain that to you dumbass?

LOL @ you. Nobody is forcing SC to schedule an 11th regular season P5 opponent ... they do it because they respect the game.

Weaker schedules don't bother me as long as they have a higher standard. In 2015, Iowa had a cupcake schedule, Iowa fans knew that. Iowa fans knew 1-loss Iowa had no shot to make the playoffs. I believe last year, if Iowa went 12-1 and won the B1GCG, they would have been in because their schedule was much tougher. But in 2015, Iowa needed to beat Michigan State.

I thought last season, Alabama wasn't held to the same standard, as they did not have any wins vs Top 15 teams and Ohio State (tougher schedule) had 3 games vs Top 15 and won 2 of them. When I say Top 15, I am going by the Committee's final poll.

This is a season where Iowa would need to go 13-0 to make the playoffs, as they don't play Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan.

Ohio St lost to Iowa and Oklahoma last year. You only look at the upside and you ignore the other parts to make your claim. You 100% ignored Ohio St's 2nd loss in what you bolded, yet claim it's others that have a different standard for teams.

The reason Alabama got in with a weaker schedule is because it's relative. If it had been the previous year and Alabama did the same thing, then Alabama does not make it.

There is no X difficulty of schedule that = automatic in. It's all relative to what the other teams around do.

Looks like Arkansas is the smartest to me.

To quote and old HS coach in the Texas panhandle, "I'd rather beat Texline by 2 than get beat by Oklahoma by 2."

The previous year, I didn't think Ohio State should have gotten in as Penn State beat them and won the B1G. Penn State should have gotten in.

I try to look at who they beat over who they lost to. I figured having 2 wins over Top 15 looks better than 0 wins over Top 15. Yes, Iowa destroyed them the week after they beat one of those Top 15 teams. Oklahoma ended up being #2 in that final committee poll.

Smart if they go 13-0. Not so much if they go 5-7.

Is playing Ohio State or Oklahoma the same as playing Illinois or Kansas? Obviously not so he is correct in that.

I do believe there needs to be some standardization in college football but I would prefer 8 conference games and 2 P5 games over 9 conference games and 1 P5. It allows for a better picture of which conferences are stronger than others. 9 conference games and only one P5 game only gives you a better idea of who is best in conference.
Not on the football field for sure. But at the bank where it matters they are just as good. Don't they get get the same cut of conference TV revenue as the good ones in the Big 12 and B1G?

I love these threads just for the fact this is where the dildos explain to us that playing more sisters of the poor @ home is good for college football.

How about 7-5? Gets 'em bowl eligible...unless a bunch of 'em are FCS.

5 wins on a weak schedule keeps you out of bowl game. 6-9/10 wins, it is all about $$$.

They schedule a P5 around conference and rivalry games. Play ND every year either mid season or end of season. While on a 9 game schedule. And don't schedule minor league FCS teams. Which honestly should be counted as wins. No different than a professional team playing a minor league team. If teams want to play exhibition games don't count them as D1 wins imo

Shit 5-7 teams are going to be going bowling now with 44 bowls.
5 win teams are already bowling. The numbers are just skewed with an FCS win and a 4 game OOC schedule. Drop the extra cupcake bowl eligibility drops. And the records give the illusion of higher SOS throughout the conference

Where did i say that the SEC/ACC do it the right way? I said that 8 conference games and 2 P5 games will bring more excitement than 9&1. Maybe I’m just weird but I feel there is more buzz around non-conference games and the fans get more worked up for those games than a conference game.

I think ticket holders will be happier with watching Washington play Auburn, Michigan, or Oklahoma State rather than Washington playing Arizona State or Colorado.

I feel the season SHOULD be more about finding the best teams in the country rather than the best team in a conference. Forcing everyone to play two Power 5 opponents gives us a better idea on conference strength rather than one game and usually it is not top team against top team.

Again, I’m not saying SEC and ACC are doing it the best way, but no one is doing anything close to what I want.

I absolutely agree with you on a standardized schedule for P5’s. I also wouldn’t be against the 8-2 model you would like to see.

But you are only looking at the schedule one way. Sure there will be years a team like MSU would miss Rutgers and play a Washington or Clemson. The other side to that is that there are other years they miss Ohio State and play Kansas or Duke. That’s not really finding the best teams in the country when the latter happens.

As far as OOC goes when has Iowa not had a cupcake schedule? I went back as far as 2012 and haven’t seen 1 power 5 team. Plenty of northern Iowa and NIU though

*update I guess there is Iowa st. Guess Kansas wasn’t available

They play Iowa St. every year but nobody is stopping Iowa from adding a 2nd P5 OOC opponent.
