Part of the problem is they'd still get criticism from activists if they kept the logo. It's not just the name, it's being used as a mascot which offends a good number of them. They'd just have the same problem the Cleveland Indians did and still do with Chief Wahoo. The GS Warriors as far as I know use about zero imagery related to NA's anymore.
There's a world of difference between this

There is... but as I have said before- it won't matter if the cartoonish logo for Cleveland is toned down- there's still going to be complaining just because there is native american imagery involved. Seen these guys a couple times walking into Chiefs games- they're definitely not going to stop at changing the name of the 'Skins. It'll be the logos too.

Reminds me of when there was this big outcry over the show Married With Children. Bunch of morons were offended and thought it needed to be banned. The response from the actors was basically if it offends you so much, don't watch it.

The Ellen Degeneres show offends me but my wife puts it on every day.....

Didn't we have a sociologist from CSU a while back get a 67% number for indigenous individuals finding the term "Redskin" offensive?

Its pretty easy to get a "survey" to either say "I'm offended" or "I'm NOT offended" There probably no true survey that can prove either way

True... but I think a sociologist (who happens to be NA himself) probably has more credibility than a WAPO poll, no?

Oh most certainly.. But even THEY can only get a certain number for any poll.. Hell this initial thread they surveyed what 504 people? Pretty sure they are missing a lot of people

I've seen this Native American dude driving his gmc truck around town with a huge redskins decal on the back window.
That wasn't a Native American. It was just another drunk, pissed off Packer fan:mad2::suds:

My gf is 25% Native American and looks at least 50% but she has no idea that Washington even has a football team so that might be moot.
You should let her visit Seattle then.

It took 5 months to reach 504 people? Who conducted the poll...a pre-schooler on a tricycle??? I can do that in an hour
I never understood, why people were/are offended by the name 'Redskins, but yet it's okay to call a team the 'Browns'?

The Browns are named after a person- Paul Brown.
There's some debate about whether Cleveland's professional football franchise was named after its first coach and general manager, Paul Brown, or after boxer Joe Louis, who was nicknamed the “Brown Bomber.” Team owner Mickey McBride conducted a fan contest in 1945 and the most popular submission was Browns.

Call the Cleveland Plain Dealer sports department and you'll be told Paul Brown. The Official NFL Encyclopedia of Pro Football also credits the legendary first coach and general manager of the team. But according to the media relations office of the Browns, the team is named after the "Brown Bomber," boxer Joe Louis.

I would tend to think that's a minority in this debate? I have honestly never heard of this being a thing.
