I looked up Layla in Goodfellas and I saw something cool in the comments:

That's kind of weird. I don't remember that but I hate Casino and will never watch it again so I guess I'll have to take his word. Seriously, how do people like Casino? That movie started my hatred of Robert De Niro (and to a smaller extent- Sharon Stone)

I've actually never seen the whole thing but I've caught most of it at different times on TBS or USA or whatever. HBO should do a transition from boardwalk empire to Capone and then into the "Casino" era. They could probably do it better.
Layla is a great example of a song that was made better by being in a movie. I used to think that instrumental part at the end was a little long but now if I hear it on the radio I can't turn it off. Clapton is also an example of why you need to listen to a lot of these classic rock guys' early music. He did an instrumental album in the 80's or 90's that had a version of that song that sucked-and it also left out the entire instrumental part at the end. Something happens to a lot of these musicians as they get older. Believe it or not Billy Joel actually had some good music before he started marrying supermodels and became whatever the fuck he is now. The Piano Man Album is good to listen to if you're smoking some of that leafy green stuff

Piano Man, Yes. Stone was a real ding bat in Casino. Her one and only best was Basic Instinct.

As I had to sweep at the end of the movie, I heard this song every time. For three straight months. It became the bane of my existence. I actually liked it at first, but now when I hear it I get a feeling that I'm a deadbeat and for some reason I get a strong scent of popcorn and cigarette smoke in my nostrils

Piano man (the album) is good, old Billy Joel. I think Uptown girl is lame, newer Billy Joel. (although I just looked and that was 1983, lol). His best stuff was actually before my time, but luckily WYSP played the same music over and over for new generations.

Here you go--like all 1960's songs you are supposed to figure out whether "Captain Jack" is a metaphor for drugs or jerking off. I'm not sure, because he mentions both of those things specifically in the song. I think he might be referring to heroin, but it could be jacking off or some people think it might be Jack Daniels (or possibly Captain Morgan?)

Yes, that is a good example of what I've been saying. The great rock musicians seem to do their best work in their 20s, and if they do happen to live decades past that you can bet that they have done some bad music along the way. If Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix and others had lived longer they would probably go through some goofy phases by now. Musicians are kind of like Kennedys. Who's more popular--JFK, RFK or "Ted" ?
