problem is according to reports the 49ers closed the interview process so unless something changes I don't see that happening.
another mistake by York. Why close it if you don't have a decision. makes no sense.

Chip had a real interview and I believe Baalke discussed the job with Shanahan. They could hire either. I hope they don't go after Chip because I see a train wreck there. I am okay with Shanahan but I have my doubts Baalke will do that.
Both didn't have a real interview like the others. Now I understand if they don't put shanahan through it again because of last year but Kelly didn't have a real interview. It was more to feel each other out.

what if their guy is coaching a team, still in the play-offs?
Im ok with that but we know thats not the case because they closed out the interview process. ITs going to be one of the guys mention. We already lost Jackson and now we lost the TB guy.

Hmm. Too many HC threads and no pick yet. I might just merge them and stick the thread. Any objections?

Merged the HC threads. Just post 'em here on this sticky thread so all can follow along.

The Browns have had 2 winning seasons since re-entering the league in 1999. That includes a grand total of 1 playoff appearance in the last 17 years.

We were overlooked for that.

won't pretend to know anything about coaching, but I *felt* that if he went to the Browns, then I couldn't feel bad he didn't come here. We need someone with higher aspirations and a bigger desire to be there in one or two years. Not that we are anyone to speak at the moment.

You didn't dump us, we dumped you!

If Gase was the guy last year before York decided to go with Tomsula then why did we not even interview him this year?
If you were Gase, after you flatly told York/Baalke last year "No, you're idiots," why would you even answer their phone call this year?

If you were York, an obviously egomaniacal idiot, why would you consider asking him in the first place?

As I told Purguy earlier, you're trying to apply logic to what York believes.

good point and i have to believe one of them is the target all along.

for me, not worried about getting a HC, there are enough candidates out there. Some already have name recognition, and some are up and comers. The HC doesn't need to be the best at X's and O's, he needs to be good at managing and leading people.

He needs to be good at figuring out how to get York to f#@k off, and get Baalke fired. Otherwise he's another yes-man that will preside over a 4-12 season at best. Before being made the scape goat and being forced to take the fall for York and Baalke's obvious shortcomings.

From what I've read, part of it came down to control with the Browns giving HJ at least some control over personnel. I don't know how much control they are giving him, but I'd say more than the 49ers were willing to give. They also pursued him harder. Their owner stayed away from the NFL meetings and sent his wife to represent him. Both Jed and John York felt the NFL meeting was more important than solving their HC issue.
Bingo. It's about the dollar signs. They could not care less about winning. It's not important to them.

Definitely another plus. If you are considered a top prospect with multiple opportunities, you are going to want to control your own destiny as much as possible. That means bringing in your own assistants and having a say in building the roster. If Baalke is not at least offering that much, I could why HJ or any other top candidate would pass.
Thank GOD we
Reminds of the the movie "Stuck on You" with Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear. These two clowns are joined at the hip. As long as Baalke is around, Niners will not be able to land the coach they truly want. I'm just shaking my head that Jackson chose the Browns over the Niners.
The 9ers want the coach that Baalke hires. York is clueless with regard to football. If Baalke tells him Waldo from "Where's Waldo" fame is the next coach, York will then tell the media that Waldo is the next Steve Kerr.

Oops. That already happened.

But we're about to watch it happen again.

I think it will happen at some point when things continue to falter. But really if I think the problem runs even higher than that. If I took over the team, the first thing I would do is fire or demote the president Al Guido whose only NFL experience is marketing tickets for the Cowboys and hire a president with good NFL experience to build up the front office and bring in a capable GM.

The first thing I would do is firebomb Jed York's house.

Hahaa...Touche...not trying to mix it up...just so fed up with our FO I'm not sure it matters who they bring in.
I've been around a while and seen a lot...I can be on board with Shanny...maybe he'll get the A hole twins to back off and let him do his job...the last time I remember the Browns doing anything // being relevant, Bernie Kozar was their QB...BERNIE FU*$ING KOZAR!!

I seriously feel like I'm taking crazy pills today after learning Jackson is out...and the freaking Browns got him...fu#king travesty.

Dude. In two posts you've referenced "Dude Where's My Car," and "Zoolander."

Epic. What's better, I think I'm probably the only person who got either.

Epic.

I good with Shanahan. Maybe he can bring some of that 1994 magic back to SF. Make Gabbert into a winner like Elway.

Whoever comes in needs to fire Gabbert immediately, and bring in an actual QB. The fact that any 9ers fan thinks Gabbert is an option at QB needs to review the franchise's history, then have their head examined.

I know some 49er fans aren't crazy about him, but Shanahan can flat out coach and put together a good staff. I exchanged emails with a well informed Denver poster here about Shanahan's time in Denver, and according to him problems started in Denver when Shanahan started assuming GM type duties. That won't happen here. I am also not that concerned about what happened in Washington because I see working under Snyder at the time doomed to failure. I don't think he really wanted RG3 but was that was forced on him.

Snyder's team won their division this year. Snyder is leaps and bounds ahead of York as far as being a competent owner is concerned.

Hahaa...thanks brother...you're one of my favorite posters on this board still...love the chatter. PM me, there's another site where the wheels hit the tarmac a bit more consistently (despite the gong show of a season and management we're currently under) and a lot of the old solid posters from our two previous forums reside.

Hope you're doing well.
